Ive been trapping quite a few pigs lately ( mainly boars under 75lbs). Im curious if the stress and adrenaline of being in the trap for a day or two may make the meat tougher and less desirable than just a standing head shot in the wild. I know you have lots of experience with trapping and was curious if you've noticed differences

I've heard keeping them trapped for a week or so and feeding them corn does wonders for the meat. Might want to try it.

And as with any other game, the younger, smaller the better the meat

Hard to hand pick what size pig I catch but if I have time I cut backstraps out, if not the buzzards and coyotes feast ( hopefully a dead pig a week in the same spot will cut down of fawn predation this fall)

Castrate and let go. Barrow hogs are focused on grass, not arse. They also will not travel very far. Shoot it a few months down the road.

Or you could just execute them on sight and turn them into cured meats.

I will never, ever let a pig go from a trap. If I ever let one walk while deer hunting its because I have a big buck on radar.

Doubt you will get a reply from BP. He's too busy being conflicted.

I found that having them in a trap doesn't change the meat at all. Under 100 lbs, they are still good to eat. Just make sure you open them up fast after killing them this time of the year. The meat will spoil very fast. I'm talking within less then a hour.

Cool when you walk up on them and they try to come at you. One would think that they would try to run away from you. Be careful. I had one climb up the fence/pen trap. Had to shoot it before it got over the fence or that sucker would of ate my lunch.

We have a trailer we can back up to the gate of the pen, load them & transport them alive back to the house if we gonna skin them

With the right situation I try to either check them at first light so its not as hot or at least already have ice waiting at the skinning rack.

I agree. They ALL get killed and hauled away from there. Keep a young gilt to eat. Whole hams are delicious wrapped in foil on the pit or in the oven.

You can't ever kill them all, so a hog.
