Trying to expand my hunting options. Within about 4-5 hours of baton rouge. Would you go alabama or Arkansas?
Don't want to pay a ton so excluding Mississippi for now.

I've got a 1300 lease available (for now) on Sam Rayburn if you're interested in TX.

I switched from piney hills in southern MS, to southern AR a couple years ago and AR is way better for deer numbers.

Forgot to mention; our club pays 6.50/acre for 1000 acres from Plum Creek so it's a lot cheaper than any decent land near BR or NOLA. I think that's the going rate up there (Drew County, AR).

Alabama, we don't have any deer in Arkansas.

In all seriousness, South AR has some incredible deer numbers and depending on the zone some ridiculously long rifle seasons. If you head toward the delta expect deer numbers to drop drastically but quality is tough to beat.

I'd love to find a place in Arkansas. SW Mississippi is so convenient though. I'd like to be able to leave work on a Friday evening, make a 1-2 hour drive and be in the woods Saturday morning. The long drive to Arkansas would also make Sunday evening hunts next to impossible.

I know the feeling well. I also miss being able to do a day hunt and come back to NOLA for Saturday night. This may be the last year I lease out my Perry County MS place because I kinda miss hunting there even though you have to hunt harder for fewer deer.
