Bought 3 new batteries yesterday and a 3 bank on board charger. Minn Kota 315d.
5amps per bank. Triple checked connections. It's been 25 hours and all three batteries still showing a solid yellow led which the manual says is bulk charging. I know the starting battery had enough juice to turn over the engine immediately yesterday so I don't think it should take this long especially each bank being 5 amps. Any ideas?

Unit might be defective? You do get lights on the charger?

New batteries don't mean they were even close to fully charged when you bought them. What are the specs on the batteries themselves? 5Ah per bank could mean a long charge time for bigger batteries.

625 dual
500 x 2 deep cycle

The charger has 3 solid yellow led--book says that's bulk charging mode

Also if that dual battery was that depleted I don't think the motor would have turned over on the first turn

I hope it's not defective. I really don't feel like taking that bitch back out and putting another in.

Clames is probably correct.
I had a buddy who deer hunts say that he bought a cell batt bk-up and it wasn't charging. Got the model # and it turned out to be for 48 hour back-up. Told him to give it time.

might be a stupid question, but do the batteries have electrolyte? I bought one a while back and the dumbasses at the auto supply store didn't fill it with acid.

If the batteries sat on the shelf awhile they could have gotten low and built up a little sulfation. Normal chargers will continue pumping juice until the voltage gets above a certain mark, but if the battery has some sulfation it will have internal resistance and take awhile to get there. In the process it's very possible to boil out the water, so keep an eye on the level. Smart chargers will sense when a battery is in bad shape and will trickle charge in this state to repair. Not familiar with your charger but either situation would explain it going over a day with no green light.

Let them sit overnight on the charger and go from there. A voltmeter would tell you more of the story. Without that it's just guessing.

Even if that charger was giving them the full rated output those could take longer than a day to charge if they were low from sitting on the shelf. Deep cycle batteries would still spin your motor well while still well away from a full charge. You'd need some extra tools to see what the current and voltage the charger was putting to each bank, it's probably not using all 5A due to the condition of the batteries.

I agree. 5 amps isn't that strong of a charger and I could sure see it taking more time to fully charge.

Usually if there is a problem with the charger you will get a light indicating it. The fact that all 3 banks say it is charging most likely means it is doing just that.
