I'm a fourth generation hunter in the same cypress tree my great grandfather hunted in. Nothing like a cypress lake for decoying mallards. Problem is, there are five other blinds in competetion for the same ducks. You would think some of the other long timers would gain, if nothing else, a little common duck sense. Negative. They blow the reeds out of their calls, run off otherwise friendly ducks with incessent racket. (not to mention wild arse shooting) Guess i'm just venting, but does anyone else have a similar situation?

Hate it for you, but I'm glad someone else can feel my pain. Seriously, I cant understand how illogical, ( plain f'n dumb) some people can be. Years of experience has had the opposite effect of what logic would dictate. It just seems to engrain stupidity. Frustrating as hell

I know what you mean. A real good friend and I been hunting a small hole in flood cypress swamp for years now. It's his family property but we do all the work to it. We do really well there killing lots of woodies and usually a pile of mallards when the weathers right. Now that our secret is out his cousins are now hunting right next to us on a flooded pipeline. Opening morning this year his cousins went between the four of them they shot seven boxes of shells and only killed thirteen ducks and they also shoot in the afternoon which tends to run the ducks off the roost. The worst part about it they farm about 4000 acres of rice and could have a blind anywhere but since the rice fields aren't producing they come sit right on top of our honey hole.

Your right, you let the cat out of the bag. Anyone that shoots decoying mallards in a cypress lake will so never do any rice field hunting to pass shoot day break teal. Problem is, those mallards working your decoys is so damn addictive, once someone experiences it, freinds, kin, or otherwise, will sell ya out and cut ya throat for a chance at feeling the thrill again. Addictive shite

Bennett's Bay

The combination of South Rapides rednecks and North Evangeline Coonasses can make for some difficult battles. I can't imagine there's much water in there right now, eh?

This sounds like my exact problem. We have two blinds in one pond(they built in the pond after previous adventures didn't work out). They call off our birds, sky blast at 80+ yards on birds that are working our spread, etc. Makes me feel like I'm hunting private land with beginners.

Haven't hunted it in years, but Blue Lake was almost as bad.
