It's not nearly this expensive if you do it yourself. Changed my gf's oil in her Jeep with Castrol Synthetic and a Wix filter from O'Reilly for $58. It'll last a good while.
Walmart sells Mobil 1 full synthetic for $28 a gallon. They also have domestic manufacturers oil filters.

Yeah, many of the European brands have 10-20k intervals. Basically change it once a year.

Full synthetic costs the same as standard oil in the long run. If you have to change conventional oil every 3,000 miles, that's 3 oil changes at $30-$40 a pop vs. 1 oil change at $

Yes, but I think everyone is overlooking that I don't pay attention to my mileage. I basically just listen to the computer. So if it pops up with 5% oil life left, then I really don't know how many miles that was. So it's not like I can say "well it's synthetic, so I'll go xxx more miles". I pretty much just listen to what the car says. And if it's going to tell me to change it at the same time whether I use standard or synthetic, then it is a savings to use standard.

It may be smarter for me to just pay attention to actual mileage, but ain't nobody got time for that.

The Ford dealership where I bought my truck for some reason has some coupon on their site that for a $50 synthetic oil change that I use literally every single time. Probably have used it 12-13 times at this point.

In the 21st century, if you are going to change your oil every 3000 miles or so.. do not pay the extra for "synthetic"

OK

AMSOIL's Signature Series 5W-30 (I picked this at random) is about $8.00 per quart AFTER you pay a $20 "fee" to get wholesale pricing. Filters (that last 7,500 miles) are about $4 each.

Let's say you drive 20,000 miles a year (again I picked this at random so pick another number that best suits your driving). AMSOIL's Signature Series is warrantied for 25K miles/1 year so you'll need 6 quarts X $8 and 3 filters X $4 = $60 for the year! PLUS you only have to change your oil once and dispose of the old oil once and your time is worth money too.

I don't think there is another oil better than AMSOIL & no I'm not a dealer (never have been).

You need to do a cost analysis based on your driving to figure out how much you'll save in actual $$ and time.

You can keep the dollar

I think he meant how do you get the filter off without the oil coming out.

I know I've never taken the filter off a motor that still had oil in it.

Sorry

Just take it off. If the part that screws into the filter is facing down, the filter will have oil in it but if you hold the filter upright nothing will spill out......if the part that screws into the filter is facing up, just let it sit for a few hours and all of the oil will drain out.

Edit: you can still keep the dollar

Actually there isn't 1000's that are dexos approved. Just because it's full synthetic doesn't mean it's dexos approved. I deal with this shite everyday.

Royal purple has several full synthetic oils but only 1 is dexos approved the others are not although they are synthetic. Pennzoil, Castrol, and Mobil 1 are the same.

The normal RP is dexos approved in the correct weights.

Pennzoil, Castrol, and Mobil 1 are the same.

Penzoil 2 out of 3
Castrol 3 out of 3
Mobil 1 Most of their main varieties are

Again all in the correct weights.

I changed the oil in my Sequoia this past weekend. Bought the oil and filter from Costco several months ago. I don't remember how much it was but it was pretty cheap. I have to order it because my truck take 0w-20.

The last time I had it changed I just didn't have the time to change it myself and ran by jiffy lube of something of the sort. It was over $150 because my truck takes almost 8 quarts of oil. I won't do that again. Pretty certain I can order everything from Costco for less than $50.

63 listed at O'Reilly alone

BTW, I had never heard of this until today, and have owned a GM truck since 07.

Ooops!

I've been using synthetic since it came out. I go 5K then change filter and top off level. Then 5K more before complete change. Works great for me.
