Offshore Trip This Weekend

I have an offshore charter trip booked this weekend out of Grand Isle. Weather forecast looks to be great, but I'm not sure about the winds. I assume the seas should be ok even with the breeze?

Looks like it's going to be windy, hold on and bring seasickness pills.

Seas 2-3 ft. doesn't sound too bad. Am I wrong?

I see vomit in your future

That's what I was afraid of. Considering we'll be in a 28 ft. Hydra Sport, should I be concerned about this trip actually leaving the dock?

2-3s are borderline and almost always mean bigger, day trip or overnighter? How far out you going?

Day trip. Not sure how far out. Think we were expecting Cobia, Amber Jack, Grouper, etc. depending on what's biting this time of year.

Planned this trip for my brother's bachelor party. It would suck to not go, but sounds like it may suck if we do go.

On the plus side, if your boat sinks and youre stranded at sea, it would be a cool story to tell afterwards...you know, if you guys are rescued and stuff.

Sounds like I better start coming up with Plan B. Sounds like fishing ain't happening.

its really up to you man, 2-3s arent that bad but 3-5s are a whole nother ball game, you shouldn't have to run THAT far out of GI to catch AJ, but expect the ride to be bumpy
the captain probably isnt going to stop you, it really just depends on how much you trust your group to still have a good time if you're getting beat up

I'm booked with Reel Screamers. He told me when I booked that he was pretty conservative about whether we go out if it's rough, and frankly, I don't want to go if we're going to be miserable anyway.

The forecast as of now looks bumpy but not anything that would be close to putting you in danger in a 28' boat. Out of Venice I wouldn't hesitate doing a short offshore trip in that forecast, out of Grand Isle with the complete open water run makes it a little less inviting. The good news though is that, with that wind direction, you will take them on the nose on the way out in the morning, and with the seas building through the day you'll at least be running with them at the end of the day.

I never really trust any forecasts that far out. I am sure they will make a call the day before but 2-3's aren't bad if that forecast holds. Mildly uncomfortable but not a trip killer.
Take your pills but prepare to vomit if going up and down 50-11 thousand times is not your thing.

maybe if you're going in a big flat bottom bay boat. on a 28' hydrasport 2-3's is fine. it's not fantastic but if you're reef fishing out of venice it's not bad at all. the wind will be annoying at 10-15, but again, it's not terrible for a rig fishing day-trip. bring a windbreaker jacket/rain jacket to keep the spray in check.
make up your mind ahead of time that you're going to have a good time. take your dramamine (or bonine i heard the other day is better as it does not make you sleepy) the night before and morning of, and don't show up hungover as shite if you're worried about getting sick. you'll be fine and have some huge fish to show off if the captain knows what he's doing. good luck.
