That's BS. Nothing wrong with Bushmaster except from the opinions of a few know-nothing snobs that aren't qualified to give their opinions.

Based on what?

Stag components don't have the value of Spikes or PSA.

Stag, while fairly new to commercial full build sales, has been a major component supplier to the gov't for decades. Think Colt and FN make 100% of every rifle in-house? No small chance you can buy a Colt AR with a Stag barrel, receiver, trigger group, bolt assembly, or lower.

I agree with tiddles on waiting on the optic and get a good sling. I like the VTAC slings. I was also just given a free (company built an upper for me and didn't pin the gas tube to the block) Frank Proctor "way of the gun" sling. It's a minimalist sling option that doesn't need any hardware to mount. Its $30 and you don't have to buy QD mounts and swivels etc. I was surprised at how nice such a cheap and simple sling could be. The way it attaches is pretty smart ("why didn't I think of that?").

All my "opinions" come from AR15.com

I do not have any opinion on the reliability/rep of any company based on actual ownership. This is from what I have heard.

Stag is a good company from what I've read. Just didn't get the upgrades like PSA and Spike for the same amount of money. That's all

Yeah, should have gathered that. Moving on. So what is the opinion on what to do? Spikes, Spikes/PSA, PSA, S&W Sport....

There's nothing wrong with any of those choices and none of them really stand out either. 1:7, 1:8, or 1:9 twist is an academic discussion at best for practical shooting. Same with CL barrels. The H1, H2, or H3 buffers are to address specific issues, having one heavier than you need does nothing but waste money and as weight.

If it were me, I'd go for the Spikes, out of those you mentioned. I don't know much about PSA's components. I question the quality because I just haven't looked into their stuff. In case you didn't know, the S&W sport will not come with a dust cover over the ejection port, nor will it come with a forward assist.

AR15.com isn't that bad. The folks there are a lot friendlier than m4carbine.net. Even if all of them don't know what they are talking about.

I don't think I will need a dust cover or forward assist. I think I'll probably get the Sport as it is the cheapest. Build it up a little and let the wife have it eventually and get me something better.

I bought a Wyndham a few mos ago. Wyndham was started by the group that originally started Bushmaster...read up on it.

For an entry level AR, i feel like I have a fine rig...that I shoot lights out.

Had some time since yesterday and today to put together my 300 blackout.

Specs:
Black Forge Upper/lower (seconds from AIMSurplus, however they arent seconds. I think they didnt account for the thickness of cerakote, so some quick hits of sandpaper and a wire brush in a few areas on the inside and these are great.)
AAC 300 Blackout 8 twist barrel
AIM Suplus BCG
PSA lower Parts kit
Leftover buttstock kit
ALG Defense 13" rail (awesome and easy to install)
Doublestar charging handle
Atlas bipod
Bushnell AR Optics 1-4x scope
Burris PEPR mount

PSA had the scope/mount on sale for $199, Ive been wanting to put on of these variable scopes on my other ar for a while now. Figured Ill try this one out and if I like it Ill get a Vortex Razor 1-6x. I put the scope on the 300 so I can see how this gun shoots, after shooting it Ill swap my the red dot over to the 300 and the scope will go to the 556.

Now the tough decision is do I want to sell this or my 308 bolt gun. Pretty sure Im getting rid of the bolt gun, my 260 bolt does everything it does and more.

Its just like the VTAC/Troy handguard, it doesnt have a top rail though you can get sections to put on it. This is going to be a hunting gun so I didnt need anything other than the scope and bipod rail. Its very light and the installation is very very very very very easy.

Keep both

Nice looking stick you got there! I've got the PST 1-4 on my 16", and I love it so far. I've only been able to go out to 100 yds with it. Hopefully, can find a place to take it out a little bit further.

Id love to, I want to join a hunting club this year. There are a couple around $1000 and one of these guns is going to fund it. I try not to put any money into my guns anymore, just trade/sell what I already have for the flavor of the week. Keeps me out of trouble with the wife, and makes sure everything gets shot. Only one safe queen in my house, the MIL's service revolver from NOPD.
