Yes. That's the point in getting one.

Also, would it make sense for me to get this or just get a conversion kit?
I have one of the M&P 15-22s and it is my favorite gun to shoot. You won't be disappointed if you get it, it's at a good price too.

Id look for a hammer forged barrel with a 1-7 twist thats at least 16 inches. The barrel is the most important component of the rifle in my opinion. It is the part of the rifle worth splurging on.
That being said, what do you plan on using the rifle for.

It will be my first build. So just more to play with and bring on some hog hunts.

Stay with at least a 16 in barrel. Look at some of the variations out there. Theres so much to chose from its near impossible for us to go over it all. But concentrate on getting a good barrel, good rails and good optics. Your upper receiver, as long as it fits the lower(which it should) you can relax a bit with. But your barrel should be 1-7 or 1-9 twist, chrome lined, with m-4 feed ramps.

Okay, well I guess to narrow it down some. I need to order the upper receiver next. What does this do and what am I looking for in it?

Here watch creepy Larry build one out. Its kind of a long vid for youtube but you will learn more from creepy Larry than you can from 90% of the posters here including myself.

It's best if you aren't a gunsmith just to get an upper from the factory. In the vid hes building out an old upper. You can pop the sights on a rail now, and bunches of companies make sights and gas blocks. The part that worries me is there is a chance the barrel can shoot loose from the receiver if it isn't torqued to spec and the vids I see on youtube I don't see a lot of guys checking headspace both of those are bad and can lead to dangerous situations. But to answer your question the upper receiver holds everything together and I would look for in it is the same things I look for in a lower anodized aircraft grade aluminum and that it mates well with the lower.

If anyone ordered a lower from Zombie Defense during the AR-rush they should be seeing them. My FFL received the ones I ordered the other day.

Thanks man. This website will definitely help. But, are there really only 2 uppers that fit my price range?

I feel dumb. But, when i click on upper receivers under the upper parts tab. That isn't what comes up. Thanks though.

Those are the complete uppers I think, you have to choose the stripped ones. I assume thats what you are looking for, I doubt you find a complete upper for $150
