Its not, with you anyway. Anyone with any sense sees the advantages of the AR platform in a home defense situation. But since you are apparently so closed minded about it, Ill let someone else argue with you. Do your thing man.

Well if my choices are Candlestick, Lamp, AR, I am selecting the AR. Good Luck with the candlestick.
A buddy of mine is a GB and was doing a lot of House to House in the Gulf War rounding up the "Deck of Cards" People. He used an AR, and so did his team. They all carried pistols, but the rifle is an awesome weapon...even in a house.
My next assembly is an SBR with a Can, and it will be set up for Home Defense. Gaston Glock can't carry the weight of the world.

This guy GETS IT!!!
If someone is breaking into my home I am grabbing whatever is closest. Why wouldn't you want the weapon with the 30 rounds of ammunition compared to 17+1 rnds in a glock 17. Also why not have the weapon with 3 points of contact compared to one point in the handgun. Now if I have a adequately set up shotgun ready that may be a better choice but the handgun would be last no matter the circumstance, and at most a secondary weapon.

Most people, especially in today's climate, use the AR platform for a home defense weapon. In my opinion I want quality components that are put through their paces. And you can also find aluminum lowers for comparable prices to polymer with a little patience. Buy once, cry once.

Who said anything about "spraying?"
5.56, especially subsonic 5.56 penetrates fewer layers of drywall(building component found in homes) then 9mm. Under stress misses will happen and that's my point.
Please interject fact and stop making up ridiculous comments.

I am not sure where you came from but I am glad you showed up.
Buy quality stuff the first time and have it last forever, do not settle on cheap crap shite just because it is available.

While I have this right now, I still think the AR is a better choice and plan on making the switch. Capacity and slow reloads are my main concerns, and then the inability to hit a pinpoint target would be my next concern.

Good luck hitting anything when fear and adrenaline are pumping through your body. I can tell you've never been in any kind of situation like this.
S shotgun won't penetrate walls and hurt your kids in the other room and it will spray so you don't have to be accurate. There is no better home defense weapon.

Pretty sure nobody is going to frick with you with this all over your house.

so i guess all pistols and revolvers must be terrible weapons.

This ain't about being better option or not, you laughed at the notion of an ar being a home defense weapon. GO break into one of these homes and find out how ineffective they are yourself.

I'm sorry. Your post contains little fact and you are doing a huge disservice to new gun owners.
Please refrain from posting things like this.

There really isn't anything wrong with polymer lowers now. Mine came in monday, so I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I expect it to hang with my forged lower.
Yeah, the early polymers suck, but there's nothing wrong with the newer polymer lowers.
And I'm with Bama on this one. Shotgun is a way better choice for HD. I'm only using my AR if I can't get to my shotgun.

Shotgun vs AR for home defense is another thread. I believe the AR is optimum for many reasons but will leave it at that in this thread.

I love AR's and plan on building a really nice expenisve one at some point. They have their purpose and are probably my favorite weapon. That said, home defense with an AR is not ideal.

Once again. Put a disclaimer of "in your opinion" when you post broad statements like that. You are very misinformed.
I am not trying to pick on you but new gun owners read what you post and you are providing them with bad information.
Many people who run training courses (retired mil and le) will disagree with you.
