OB's Opinion: Smith & Wesson SD9 VE 9mm

Just bought one for $300 at Academy. I like the feel of it. Its biult very similar to my Glock 19, so thats a plus in my book, and pretty much why I bought it. The reviews were good, with the exception of a few complaints about the trigger. I figured a Smith & Wesson for $300 is a pretty damn good deal, so I pulled the trigger (pun intended). Going to go shoot it tomorrow, weather permitting. I bought it as a back up for my Glock, and I don't think I'll regret it. Just curious what you guys think of this particular hand gun. Any of you shot one, or own one?

That gun is so shitty S&W renamed it to save face. Sigma's suck.

My BIL has one about (6/8 months now) and is happy with it. He and I reload most of are stuff so it's working for him. I have the M&P full size and compact, he's a bit cheaper than I am.

Your opinion is based on what, exactly?

Me owning one, to this day it is the only gun I've ever sold and wanted to get rid of.
Congrats though. You mentioned it reminded you of your glock. I would say that's accurate. It's a really shitty glock.

My uncle collects pistols and out of all of the fifty or so that he owns, he hates the Sigma the most. He won't even let me borrow it for target practice.

I gottcha. Whats so bad about it? Reviews say nothing about being selective with ammo, and Smith & Wesson make quality products, no? I doubt i sell it even if i dont care for it after shooting since it was only $300. As long as it lasts, and goes pew when i pull the trigger, then i got my moneys worth. Thanks for yalls opinions, fellas.

The old Sigma's had a terrible trigger, but I think they fixed that.

I guess ill find that out tomorrow, when i go shoot it.

POS. whenever we got broken into, we were praying that it was stolen. we still high-fived when the sig P250 was taken. there wouldve been a party if they had taken both

did it not shoot well? Was it terrible quality? Yall need to be more specific. Id like to know what to look for (as far as flaws) when shhoting it.

It is THE jam-master of guns. Pony up and buy a m&p series.

They're garbage. You overpaid.

A) You overpaid.
B) My dad has had his since around 96, or 97. First time it jammed was 1.5 years ago. Cleaned it for the first time since he bought it. Hasn't jammed since.
Different people have different experiences. I personally have owned 2 Hi-Points and both have been good guns. Others have had terrible luck. It is what it is, mass manufacturing is an inexact process.

No offense, but most people would ask for opinions and then make a buying decision.
You bought a $300 pistol. At that price point you could have done worse. But you could have bought a used Glock for about that amount, and you'd have acquired a far better weapon.

They fixed a lot of the reliability issues (after they settled the suit filed by Glock), but the trigger is still one of the worst ever.

It's not a bad gun, but you can buy an M&P online for $400. I have the M&P V-Tac in 9mm. I got the apex aluminum replacement trigger and Daily carry trigger pack.

Here's a very detailed thread in the SD9, I was a little surprised reading it.
