I planned this in another thread, but a large group backed out on me. So I am coming back to the OB one more time.

I am hosting a deer hunt at my farm next weekend the 27th-29th of January. The primary purpose will be a meat hunt. We are way behind on our Doe kill these past few years and need to put some on the ground. Here are the highlights for anyone interested.

2400 acres of mixed fields, timber, and WRP near Port Gibson, MS
Hunt from Fri noon to Sun noon
$1000 per hunter
All lodging and meals provided on site at my lodge
Unlimited Does and Hogs
If you see a trophy buck, you are welcome to harvest. Your choice for $1500 extra
Deer cleaning offered for $20 per animal. Or DIY for free.
We have food plots, box stands, ladder stands, etc
Guaranteed shots every time you go to the woods
We are supposed to kill 50 Does per year, but we got tired of doing it. Only killed 8 so far this year.
Long range forecast (if you believe it!) calls for beautiful dry weather with highs in the 50s and lows in the 20s
Duck hunting also available if you like

The purpose of the hunt is to raise money for an outdoor kitchen as a surprise for my father. He is at his winter home in Florida and returning in April for turkey season. So any contractors that want to swap work or materials for hunting would be great.

Dates are somewhat flexible for anyone who wants to come during the week before or after, I can probably accommodate.

If you are interested post your email address and let me know how many in your party.

Cheers -- No Colors

How many does are allowed to be taken by 1 hunter over the weekend for $1000?

I am interested in a fun group of social guys. Maybe make it an annual event. There will be a lot of cooking, visiting, card playing, and getting to know one another. I hope to make it an annual event by which we can identify one major "project" on the farm and pay for it with a big weekend each year.

If you are working the math over in your head about how many pounds of deer meat you get for $1000 and seeing if that's a good deal financially, then this is probably not the hunt for you.

Another way to put it: I would charge $3500 to come hunt the place for three days of trophy deer hunting. This is $1000 and you don't pay another dime unless you actually kill a trophy buck. And then it is a bargain.

I am not asking for $3500 for a "trophy hunt" precisely because I do not want the pressure of someone not killing a nice deer and feeling like they did not get their money's worth. This way, it's a bargain, and everyone will have a good time.

TLDR Summary: If you're uptight about it, then need not apply

How many people participated in the past? How crowded is it expected to be?

Edit: Are you sure you would have enough room?

Do you need any help with this event? Like bringing people to stands, skinning deer, etc. I only live about 15 mins away and sounds like a fun weekend and would like to help out. I just don't need a place to hunt nor meat. Obviously I'm not looking for any payment.

Never hosted anything like this. The farm has just been for the use of my family and our guests.

The lodge sleeps 12 comfortably. Three bathrooms. We have about 15 food plots and another 20 stands in the woods. Plenty of room. The hunting experience will be very high quality. You will see plenty of game. We do not hunt the place hard. We selectively shoot about 10-15 trophy bucks per year on 2400 acres. A typical afternoon you will see 20-30 deer per food plot and 4-8 racked bucks.

I am thinking about 10 hunters as a target number. We have hunted 15 or so during Thanksgiving and Christmas. We specialize in kids. We have had over 50 kids kill their first deer on the place.

I want it to be more of a social event than anything. So the more the merrier! Come on for dinner and all that.

I have a "local" who will be at the skinning shed ready to skin deer. People can just pay him $20 and head up to the house for a cocktail.

My 16yo nephew was going to be there to help me put people on stands. But then his grades came in yesterday and his mother informs me that his hunting season is over for the rest of his natural life. So I really do need help taking people to the woods and picking up bodies in the evening. Very much appreciated.

I have been up to NoColor's place a couple of times, everything he has described is accurate, the place is loaded with deer. It is really a great property.

No. 1k for 3 legal does... or you could, well, you know. Plus as many hogs as well

Sorry if you interpreted it as such. But, no.

The hunt is over three days (Fri - Sun). And MS allows one doe and one buck per day. So you can kill three does legally. We encourage all of our guests to obey state law....although my record keeping is sometimes spotty.

You can also kill trophy bucks (your definition of trophy). And you can also kill unlimited hogs. And duck hunting is available.

So, I would say that for $1000 you get:

Food and Lodging
Four hunts
A big pile of deer/hog meat
A duck hunt
A damn good time on a beautiful weekend in God's country.

This isn't for everybody. But I appreciate your interest.

While a generous offer and I'm sure it'll be a great time for those that take you up in the offer, I don't think this thread is in line with the interests of this board, i.e. advertising for profit.

Most of us, with excess resources, would gladly host a fellow OBer for free or at most cost of expenses to host.

Hope y'all have a great weekend!

I totally understand your position. And I stressed about that. The only reason I came to the Board is because I planned the weekend, and then a large group had to back out. So now I have a few guys committed. And I need to fill it up to accomplish my objectives.

Over the years, we have hosted literally hundreds of guests and never charged a dime. I have hosted OBers in the past, and thoroughly enjoyed it and never asked for anything, and never will.

But the cost of operating the place would absolutely shock most people. My father has mentioned several times (in broad hints) that he would like me to take on the responsibility of installing a nice outdoor kitchen. I just dont have the money right now. I think I can scrape it together for $20k. And I was hoping to raise $10k from a doe hunting weekend, and I would contribute the other half.

I hope I haven't offended the Board. If so, I will gladly delete.

Honestly didn't know that. Thanks for the correction. The laws change so fast, I can hardly keep up. We pretty much just do our own deal.
