OB ATV mechanics, problem with Grizzly 700

I have a 2009 Grizzly 700. Started and ran perfectly, no problems until yesterday. Drove it for about 10 minutes and it was business as usual. Parked it on the creek and that's where it stayed... When I try to start it, the starter sounds like it's spinning but it's not turning the motor over. The engine light has also come on. Any ideas on what this would be?

the bendix is stuck. Whack it with a piece of wood.

WTF is a bendix? I'm no mechanic, by the way.
Ahhh. I probably just noticed it because something was wrong.

Pull the starter and take a look and find out where the failure is.

Ahhh. I gotcha. And just beating on it could do the trick?

I take that back. Now if the starter had the bendix built into it like a car starter does i'd say give it a whack. That internal engine bendix won't free up by whacking it. My bad.Coffee hasn't kicked in yet.

Does the bike have a pull starter? Have you tried cranking it by the pull rope if it has one?

No pull starter.
Just from some quick google searches, some people are talking about a one way clutch or a starter clutch. Would that be in place of the bendix?

quote:i believe that one way bearing is a part of the CVT transmission that bike has in it. No gear shifts right?
Yes one way bearing.
If so then that bearing should have nothing to do with the starting of the bike.

Right. No gears.
Damn thing had to die at the farthest possible point on the property. And in the only part where people may come across it. I'll probably just go fetch it this week and drop it off somewhere this week. Any recommendations?

quote:tell you one fricking thing. I wouldn't own an ATV that didn't have a pull starter. That's just a heartache waiting to happen. And no, i really don't know of any place to recommend to you.

Do any bikes have pull start anymore? And I don't even know if I could pull that damn thing over with a pull start if it had one...
Posted on 12/22/14 at 8:32 am to DownSouthDave
I haven't seen one without. And they're geared to where it's pretty easy to pull. But I'm not around atvs as much as some others tbh. Maybe some other posters can chime in on if their bikes have pull start.

My 750 has a pull start backup. Good luck trying to start it like that.
