Why are these so hard to obey?

I mean the sign is clear as day. No wake. Doesn't say, hey slow down a little bit but still throw up a foot tall wake..

When you see houses hanging OVER the river, some as many as ten feet as a result of the flood in August, it really is a giant frick you to the homeowners. The fish will still be there in 5 minutes. No need to cause more land loss and potentially a house falling into the river.

I was off today and counted at least 5 different bass boats fly through here, not a care in the world. The same assholes would pull a gun on you if you flew by them while they had a line in the water yet don't bat an eye at the damage they cause by not obeying a simple no wake zone.

Are we talking about official signs with some backing of the government and threat of fine, or a homade poster board and sharpie special?

Official signs. Put up after the flood bc several houses lost their entire back yards since the river completely shifted course.

Even without a sign... There are several houses literally HANGING over the river now. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that throwing a wake will erode that more.

Edit: you can somewhat see one of the signs across the river, and some of the houses.

Thats a sad stretch of river. It should be obvious to everyone that extra care should be taken.

I'd call sheriff or ldwf and get them to sit out there for a day or two. Word will get out. Situation is only going to get worse as we enter into spring.

What is going to happen to those homes? Are they going to be repaired?

Assholes are useless. They said they were gonna have a boat constantly here right after they opened back up and it was really bad. Nope. Have sent video, pics, etc and get told basically "oh well

We don't know yet. We're stuck in limbo. Do we pay 100+ thousand to have a new bulkhead put in, just to be washed out a year later? The talk right now is a buyout of the neighborhood at pre-flood prices and turning it back to greenspace. Thing is, the buyout won't cover anything done post flood. So if we do anything, we won't get paid back. But each day we wait for an official word, the closer we are to falling in.

It's a super shite position that's for sure.

NFIP might be buying them back?

I can't remember what abc group it was, but if that's the abc group who does buyouts after natural disasters and such, then yes. That's the word on the street and from the higher ups dealing with it.

Edit: this is the most recent update I've gotten.
Here is the update on the buyout. Paul Sawyer has advised us the funds have been allocated and they are meeting with the parish to form a plan for proceeding. We should be hearing from them any day. Also, the LSU professors have visited and are busy gathering the data needed to give them a better picture of what's going on. Don't be surprised if you see them around the neighborhood. They were here a couple days ago filming video. Garret Graves is continuing in his attempts to develop additional help if the buyout does not go through. That's all I got... obviously none of this is going fast.

That's sad to hear. If you can't count on them to enforce the law, what are you supposed to do?

Thats insane. Are all the homes occupied? Some look like they are on their last leg. Hopefully it works out.

Yep. I try to wave down the ones who I see, and typically get either ignored/flipped off, or I get "I didn't see the signs" as if 3x4 foot reflective signs with a neon flag on top on either side of the river is "hard" to see.

Of the homes affected, 3 of us live in them still. The rest are the worse off ones and moved out soon after. One guy said frick it and dumped probably 150k + into a new bulkhead and crushed concrete. The rest of us aren't willing to take that sized gamble and not get reimbursed

Say that to the land my neighbors and I have lost due to bass boats flying through here "barely making a wake". And you're right, bay boats, ski boats, pontoons, they're all guilty. But right now, it's the bass boats flying up and down river being pieces shite.

Do bass boats fly by other bass boats that are fishing a Reed line? Nope.

Highend camp owners always yell at us, then they come flying down with bigger boats past us. I do what makes me feel good, no wake with boats tied to docks, lifted I'm gone.

And if you would do that past the houses I posted above, then you are a literal piece of shite.

I can understand boat launch no wakes when it's empty on a weds. But this is an entirely different situation.

Wasn't aware a 1400 Sq foot 2 bed 2 bath house was "High end". Now, some of the million dollar Diversion canal houses I can see your point. And what does that matter? That is straight up inferiority complex you have son. "They have something nice so frick them".

Grow up you Child.

Since some "rich" camp owners swamp you, you have no problem throwing wake on them all?

I don't follow your logic. Not to mention that the homes in this thread are hanging over the precipice. Some of them could literally cave in at any moment.

I'm in Cocodrie, never fished fresh so my response was in general, understand?
The Coco Village fly south with no shits given, so in turn I do the same heading north in a much smaller boat when they are lifted.
My issue isn't with the area, it's with the people in all areas doing the right thing.
PS- a 2 bedroom, 2 bath sounds great to me on the water.
