Duck populations are fine. They probably haven't been pushed far south yet.

There's a pond on my parents land where every year I could kill a handful of ducks every weekend. Woodies, teal and the occasional mallard.

Have not seen 1 duck this season

Drive down 71 from Cheneyvile to 190 and you'll see quite a few. We had 3 hunters with limits yesterday and 2 of us with limits this morning.

You keep believing that sunshine. Buy your stamps and licenses and get ready. There are ten of thousands more ducks now than back in the 80's when Louisiana became famous for it's great duck hunting. You'd get better odds if you spent your money on Powerball than duck stamps.

Drive to South Dakota in early November You will believe the duck numbers.

They just migrate differently and food source migration is not as necessary with different farming methods and increased rice in Arkansas vs decreased in louisiana

I don't know where you hunt but I hunt around the atchafalaya and the problem we're having isn't that there aren't any ducks, it's that there's so much water the duck can go anywhere they want. And usually that's scattered out in the woods in random places.

Well that's just a load of malarkey

But less duck hunters equals more time for me to buy cheaper shite at academy at end of season

And lots of used guns for bargain

You ain't the first fellow to accuse me of being full of malarkey.
I still think you'd get more results with the Powerball. Duck numbers have supposedly been rising higher and higher each year but I haven't seen chitloads of ducks since back when we used the points system and lead shot and there supposedly weren't many ducks and geese. If we were seeing more ducks in louisiana to correlate with numbers being calculated on the breeding grounds we'd have to cover our pools in the winter to keep them from crapping on the concrete.

I myself am disgusted with duck hunting but if you are enjoying yourself duck hunting, I'm happy for you.

Plenty of ducks, there's just a shite ton of water right now, so ducks are scattered. Also, the weather in the north is finally getting cold enough to freeze the water and snow cover all the feed. The next few weeks should see plenty of ducks.

no till farming

changing land use practices

also add in increased pressure further up the flyway since 60/6 returned and.. ND for instance went from 5,000 non resident waterfowl hunters to 30,000 in just a few short years..

and early season MOJO use dramatically increases the number of young waterfowl taken before they make it south - young ducks easier to kill... period.

IMO the duck season along the coast is way too early. They should open it from late December through the end of February. We are just starting to see decent duck numbers at our lease and there is only one weekend of season left.
