Interesting move. Borders on invasion of privacy imo. Anxious to see backlash.

Today, the Journal News in upstate New York, owned by Gannett, published the names and addresses of all gun permit holders in the Westchester and Rockland county areas of New York. The Journal News said:

So the blogger is upset that a media outlet exercising their 1st Amendment Rights has somehow violated the privacy of an individual for exercising their 2nd Amendment Rights?

Interesting move by the paper. They'll get some heat for it I'm sure but in the end I think the Constitution probably falls in favor of the newspaper...

If a criminal can read, I would suppose those will be the least likely places to be busted into today.

At least the pinkos will get the bulk of the breaking and entering this week after Christmas!

some pinkos are well armed, brah.

I doubt criminals spend much time reading the newspaper, at least not the type that do burglaries. Not the sharpest tools in the shed.

I wonder what the rationale is that the paper used to print this. Gannet is one of the shittier newspaper outfits, killing off local papers one by one. In five years Alex/Monroe/Shreve/Laffy will have the same paper, Louisiana Today, and Gannet will have laid off every reporter, turning them into freelancers for $90 per article, instead of salaried employees.

I wonder if those not holding firearms in those areas would be offended if they posted their names...

I wonder if the paper took into account that some of these people bought guns to protect themselves from crazy exes and were trying to stay under the radar and this paper just gave out their address. Knowing that having a gun in the house MAY stop an honest person, but someone looking to do bad things are going to do what they want.

The news paper that published the names and address of gun owners has now hired armed security.

Ok, so here's what I can't get to the bottom of here... You have a series of Gannett-owned newspapers and a single reporter decides to post this information about CCP holders? People get pissed, then someone who is creative decides to accumulate public info (from real estate websites, facebook, google searches, etc) on the employees of the newsaper? If so, I believe that turn about is fair play.

The paper here in Memphis did this with CC permit holders a few years ago.

To me the paper is essentially trying to label the people registered for guns about the same as a sex offender.

Good for the blogger listing the execs of that paper.

I remember that. A pinko commie rag here in LR thought about it as well.

Looks like we have an ongoing war in New York...

LINK

quote:

The Journal News is at the center of controversy yet again. Now a hacker group has broken into the newspaper's database and is disseminating the names, addresses, and passwords of thousands of the Journal News' customers.

In December, the Westchester, New York area paper released the names and addresses of thousands of New York's legal gun owners, then threatened to publish even more in the near future.

After the local New York paper published the names and addresses of gun owners in Rockland County in an online interactive map, bloggers responded by posting the names and addresses of the employees of the Journal News.

The paper then hypocritically hired armed guards to patrol its offices over what it claimed were "threatening" emails it had received.

The Journal News also announced late in December that it would continue politicizing the names and addresses of New York gun owners and began the process of obtaining the names and addresses of gun owners in nearby Putnam County. But county officials there have balked, refusing to give the paper the requested information.

"There is the rule of law, and there is right and wrong and the Journal News is clearly wrong," Putnam County Clerk Dennis Sant said in a statement. "I could not live with myself if one Putnam pistol permit holder was put in harm's way, for the sole purpose of selling newspapers."
In the latest development in this tit-for-tat invasion of privacy, a group of hackers have announced that they've broken into the Journal News' subscriber database. The group is sending the database of customers' names, addresses, and passwords to anyone that requests it.

Some of this database appears to be on the file sharing site called Pastebin, and many are tweeting about the release of information.

We here at Breitbart News will not post the names, addresses, and passwords of the customers of the Journal News, as that information is not public record.

But your not a sex offender and socity is not going to look at you as one either. The people that might you could care less about their opinion anyway. Your not breaking any laws by being a registered gun owner and the reality of it is most people wont look at you any differently for owning a gun legally. I'm a registered gun owner and I would'nt lose a minutes sleep if it were published in the local newspaper. Maybe some gun owners are just a little insecure.

Most won't, but there are always some that will and in that liberal state you have no idea what they will try.
