Just moved to Mandeville and in search of some sac a lait and perch spots. Any help would be appreciated. I can provide an email address if you don't want to give anything away publicly.

Listen here, Honky....you can't just come up in here and ask for fishing spots. Just kidding. I just wanted to say Honky. Carry on.

I like your screen name, but think I would like it better if it were "Blue Gums".

Where do you hail from Honky Lips?

Honestly, there aren't a whole lot of public areas to catch the fresh water fish you mentioned.

You will do ok on trot lines for catfish on the bogue falaya and the little abita.

Make friends with someone with a pond for perch and sacaulait.

I'm not a fresh water fisherman but I see people at this pond off I-12 near the Covington/Hwy 190 exit all the time.

Use the service road by Toyota to get to it. Don't be a dick like the dick I almost rear ended and try to exit off the shoulder of I-12 to get to it.

Bayou Lacombe will hold some and I would imagine the Tchefuncte would be a good spot. I grew up in Slidell and this time of year was great to fish minnows either under a cork or on a split shot.

My favorite spots were Bayou Liberty, Paquet, Cane and some interstate ponds. I would catch a mix of sacalait, catfish, bass, striped bass, goggle eye, blue gill and lake runners.

If you don't have a boat interstate ponds usually have walking trails.

Scoop net & styrofome bucket will help you catch a mix of crawfish, minnows and grass shrimp which are all great.

We used to go mud riding back there all of the time. Tipped my 99 Tacoma on its side once.

OP, you can try the greenleaves ponds or Bayou Lacombe

Thanks for the help guys. I'm mainly an offshore fisherman but moving here has given me the bug for light tackle. I will research these areas and report back if I stumble upon anything else.

Damn. Forgot about Bayou Lacombe. Lots of spots there to fish.

Also, Heritage Park in Slidell has a fairly large waterfront bulkhead where you can fish from. It's situated at the far north end of Bayou Bonfouca so there's not much tidal movement but I've seen people in canoes and kayaks in there running jug lines before.

Also, there's a fishing pond in Coquille Sports Park in Covington off Hwy 1077. I've heard it's stocked with fish but I don't know what kind.

Also, Bayou Cane in Mandeville. If you have a kayak, canoe or small flatboat you can fish there. There's a small landing area on the south side of Hwy 190 just across the Hwy from the Mandeville fire station neat the Mandeville/Lacombe "border".

Another spot is Bayou Liberty where the Bayou Liberty bridge crosses the Bayou. There's small piers you can fish from at the church and you can park on side of the road by the bridge and walk back to the sides of the bridge and fish from there too. (see picture)

Most definitely. Both on the south side of Hwy 190.

One here more North and closer to Hwy 190: North Launch (click link for Google maps directions)

One one near the mouth of the Bayou to Lake P here: South Launch (again, click link for Google map directions)

There's also a very nice bait and tackle store on Lake Rd one block off Hwy 190 called Bayou Adventure. They carry live, fresh and artificial baits as well as all kinds of tackle and gear and offer kayak and bicycle rentals too (bike rentals are for the Tammany Trace which is a 31 mile paved trail for running and bicycling here in St. Tammany, if you haven't heard of it). Very nice people and they'll give you all the advice and pointers you need for fishing Bayou Lacombe. Their Facebook page is more up to date than their website though. Here's the link to their site which has some info and the link to Facebook if you use that.

If you want easy entertainment, grab some cut bait and a surf rod and head to the end of lake road in Big Branch. You can walk out past the rocks straight into the lake if you want, the sand bar stretches out about 50-75 yards from the rocks. You can catch small 3-4 foot blacktips and roaming jack crevalle. Prepare your arse cause the jacks aren't big but they hit like a tank, that's all purely entertainment though.

I haven't checked the salinity in the lake as of late since the spillway closed, but when it's up and the trout move in farther you can track the seagrasses along the marsh line looking for reds and trout, sometimes black drum.
