Been looking for a A5 mag 12 for a while and ran across this one for a good price earlier this week. Not real pretty as far as A5's go but internals are good and it shoots great! It's a 1977 & Jap made. Gun smith said he'll thread it for choke tubes for me for $85. No sentimental value either so I won't feel bad about using or abusing it. Even in it's current condition, gun will probably out live me and my two sons.

Purty. I'm going to try to pick one up soon as well. My dad has a sweet 16, and just out of curiosity, does it operate the same way as the A5? Is the only difference, mechanically, the gauge?

Yes, recoil operated, same as sweet 16 as far as operating system. Magnum has two friction rings on magazine tube where regular 12,16, & 20 only have one. You still change ring positions to go from light to heavy loads and vice versa.

New A5 is more like the Benelli operating system.

My grandfather passed one down to me. I loved shooting that gun. I put it up because shooting heavy loads in it was causing a small crack in the stock and I didn't want to break it. It was one of the last ones made in Belgium.

Jap made

Dad won't buy a Browning if it's made in Japan.

I prefer the Belgian ones myself, but Japanese barrels can shoot steel. Was really looking for one with invector chokes but the price was so good I couldn't pass it up.

I have a standard 12 that's belgian and my dad still has his dad's belgian made 16 ga. that was made in '31.

I love those humpback autos. I have two Belgiums a 12 and a sweet 16. By far my favorite guns in my collection. Not to mention they are/were my dads. He's still living so I still attribute half ownership to him.

Nice find

My dads Belgium was stolen out of his truck when I was in middle school.

I do have a jap 20ga 2 3/4" that I will make it rain with during teal season this year.

Tried out a new A5 yesterday. I now know why I have heard it called a "Brownelli". It is almost identical to my SBE. It shoots the same, kicks the same, and points the same. It appears to be an excellent shotgun. Since I have the Benelli already, I can not see myself buying the A5.

I got this badboy for Xmas last year, and I love it. It definitely lets you know when you pull the trigger, but I love the sight line that the humpback gives me. Maybe it's the placebo effect, but I feel like I shoot it better than I do my old gold.

How is it choked now? If Mod I would just shoot it, no larger than #2 shot. Best auto made right there.

It's a 30" fixed full choke. If it was a mod, I wouldn't worry about it.
