Ok, this is going to be fun. If I can stare at him for a few minutes, but although not skiddish here hard as hell to tell exact beam and age at evening hunts in twlight. Trying to explain this to my 15 year old son. All I can think of are sway backs, black on back horns 6 inches past ears. Anything easy pointers that you guys have to tell between and 3 and 4 year old deer, 20 inch beam and 22? any websites on this?

I am just going to bring my checkbook.

Just started this year, and I am a guest but my son has done youth hunt here for last 7 years and killed some nice deer. They are good guys, and will laugh it off (Most likely) if he screws up but I want to at least try to do it right. No cull bucks either.

Assuming you have enough/quality land and/or similar neighbors...
I'd suggest investing in lots of cameras and using them continuously from September on. Consider a system that sends pics to your cell phone or computer. Put out lots of feed early before acorns on the cameras. Show everyone bucks that everyone agrees are shooters. The more they see, the more they will understand what to look for. I'd bet you will probably get most of your shooters on camera if done correctly. The ones you don't capture, you will hopefully know they are shooters at first glance because they are big and old. Then everyone should know that they are looking for specific deer, or they will see one that they know is a shooter at first glance.

Not happening. (LOL) A membership opens up next year and hopefully it is mine if I don't screw this up. (LOL) Plenty of pigs and does to shoot. I told him take a pic and send it to the head guy lol

I hunted a place like that for a few years recently and honestly I was afraid to shoot a buck due to the fact they were big for their age along the Big Black River in Ms. I just shot does. I had never had to "age" them before and based on my experience it takes year of experience to successfully age them. When you see that big 3 yo buck with little experience aging them cautions go out the window and boom, then it's too late. Staying with does for a few years is the best bet IMO. Take some pics and have the "experts" tell you if a shooter or not. Trust me, there will be plenty of mistakes made by others in the first year of taking only 4 1/2 yo bucks.

I messed up and shot a 3.5 year old 8 pt on Saturday. I let excitement and frustration get the better of me.
I have 3-4 shooters that I've been getting pictures of since August, and this deer wasn't one of them.
Should have known better, and I will feel bad about it until I get it back from the processor and cook some of the sausage he had become

those type rules drive me nuts. we are supposed to be shooting 3.5+ in texas but most of us F it up on BIG 2.5. i always do fine with only shooting bucks that get me excited and reaching for my rifle instead of bioniculars
