NELA NWR Water Levels

I usually hunt D'arbonne NWR, Upper Ouachita, and sometimes Felsenthal, AR...
Rumor was that they are pumping water into some of the Refuges such as Russell Sage and even Upper Ouachita, anyone know anything about that?
With the entire Mississippi River Flyway suffering through this drought, if you've got water, you're going to kill ducks.

Do you only duck hunt? I was curious is to why you don't hunt Union WMA? This is my first wear to hunt WMAs and I have focused on Union. I'm deer hunting and don't duck hunt.
Any thoughts or advice?

Sorry to change the subject. I have not heard anything about pumping water into the WMAs. With it being so dry I would imagine that LWFD want more water in the WMAs so the ducks aren't confined to certain areas and want to avoid a slaughter fest for the few hunters who do have water.

You better have a rest area on your property to hold them because once they get shot at they are going to head somewhere else quickly. Last year we killed mallards after Christmas in a dry field with only a ditch of water running through it simply because we had a huge roost lake on our lease that held them in the area. This year they are stressed even further, so it will be interesting to see how they respond to pressure and lack of food this year.

I hunt SLA, looking to do some standing flooded timber hunting this year. What would yall say is the best public land up north to hunt?

I deer hunt on private properties except up north in Kansas and Northern Missouri. I'm mainly a duck hunter when I'm on WMAs or a NWR in LA.
I used to guide hunts up in Mer Rouge and Jones, but due to the ridiculous prices that they're charging to lease fields, I've gone to hunting public land. There weren't enough ducks over the past few years to really want to guide. I couldn't lie to my customers and tell them that they were going to slaughter the mallards, when in all reality I knew there wasn't a ghost of a chance. I just can't get pumped about killing 10-15 ducks.
I've got a 17' Excel with a Mud Buddy on the back. I can kill the same number of ducks on some of these hard to reach NWRs that my friends are killing at their $15,000 leases.

If I was you, I'd archery hunt on Black Bayou or somewhere like Tensas.
Deer are keying on what acorns there are, and as soon as they leave those they're hitting up local watering holes. There are huge deer on these Refuges up here, but you've gotta hunt them hard. They've been hunted so much that they're smart and elusive.

Upper Ouachita or Sage if they get the water in there... I've waxed the ducks on both of those. Most of the others require a mud boat, or extensive knowledge of the area.
eta: The Boeuf is one of the better and underused Refuges around.
