Wick or anyone else, can you point me to videos or possibly professionals who can tune up my pup for upland hunting. As I saw at the quail forever deal we did last fall, I know it's in his blood but I don't know really where to start as far as getting him to hold point, etc. I've followed several videos for duck training and was wondering if there's something similar I can follow for upland training. At this point it's all natural instinct but I'd love to tone him up and mix up my hunts a little bit. I've got plenty of land available to me and am willing to get birds to train with, just need pointers (no pun) on where to take it from here. Thanks, here's a fun gif for your time

I would help you but you saw me at and my mutt at the dog park on Monday and left. It hurt my feelings...

I would also tell you that Louisiana Upland Dogs facebook page is a great resource

Can you give me details? I'm nervous I'm gonna send him off and the trainer will hate him.

Yea, he didn't have a shock collar on him so we didn't leave the fence. I am normally out there on mon and Wend now that my son's soccer has started back up.
You dog really just needs birds, good flying birds. Pigeons work really good if you can trap some.

Damn unfortunately my family friend is unable to train due to medical reasons. Just called to find out but they gave me that news.
Do you want to take the pup upland hunting or just to do it as a way to train and discipline the dog? If not, train him as a retriever my wirehair griffon was a beast.

Order some quail wings and live quail. Hide them around your property. Worked pretty well for my GSP

If you can find some birds I can show you some training stuff on mondays or wendsdays

This.
Here he was back in October during his first exposure to live quail. Not exactly what he was supposed to be doing

Okay I'll try to get my hand on some in the next couple weeks and I'll get with ya. I just don't want him to be chasing birds around when he's supposed to point and wait for the flush.

You need strong flying birds, that is why I recommend pigeons

Is trapping my only option or can I buy them from someone?

Might be able to get them from Craigslist. They can be netted at night with a spot light and a long handled net from overpasses

Call covey rise and see if they can get you any.
