The last place on the earth I would look for a used vehicle now is Houston after Harvey flooded like 500K cars.

My stepson has been driving a 2009. We’ve had it for over 4 yrs and has been a great car. A couple days ago one of his friends backed into the trunk and rear quarter panel area very hard. Pretty sure it will be totaled.

Retirement homes often have actual physical bulletin boards with cars for sale by residents whose health has forced them to quit driving, I found one of my kids a low millage Accord on one.

Toyota of new orleans has a 4x4 xterra like I was talking about. Looked at it yesterday.

Clean and driveline looks good. I'm only telling you because I don't need ANOTHER 4x4 to mess with

...according to my wife.

nah...no need for a truck. just put a 150 dollar trailer hitch on the corolla. It worked for me. I would pull a 16 foot boat with that thing. Just recently moved using it with a 10 ft trailer from baton rouge to laffy. worked well.

That is a limited budget for the "dependable category", I would look first at Mazda 3. Look around the 2010 year range plus or minus a few. Have seen more of those with 200+k miles than the others. Kinda surprised me.

My nephew needs a vehicle that will last for around 6 yrs (the rest of HS and college) and his mom (my sister and no pics) wants to spend around $6-7k. Any suggestions? The dealerships want to rape you for stuff you don’t really want anyway.

I bought my son a 2007 Honda Civic EX for $5500. it had 110K miles on it

My advice is to buy it from a major dealer. Most of the small timey lots buy cars off auctions where the major dealers declined to sell that vehicle themselves. There's usually a reason...
