Need help with used vehicle for late HS early college student

My nephew needs a vehicle that will last for around 6 yrs (the rest of HS and college) and his mom (my sister and no pics) wants to spend around $6-7k. Any suggestions? The dealerships want to rape you for stuff you don’t really want anyway.

I would say try to find someone you know that is selling one. That way you can get an idea of what you are buying. Did that for my daughter and the car lasted 8 years and she put over 75K miles.

That would be ideal but we don’t know anyone who is selling what they are looking for.

I've done well with craigslist if you are in area with large listings. Got a used Acura and Yotas before at fair prices, lasted forever

Honda civic, accord
Toyota camry
If they are taking out loans for school.
Good mileage, cheap, reliable. Can get a nicer car when they graduate

I’m in Livingston and my sister lives in BR, but for the right deal would travel as far as NO or Laffy.

Friend of mine just went to Houston to get his high school son a vehicle. You may want to expand your area.

If fuel mileage is not the question, purchase a 2001-2004 Nissan xterra.
Do a timing belt, water pump, radiator, and new belts day one. Good for 100k miles more. Until you do the same things I just listed.
They are extraordinarily overbuilt vehicles.
I'm at 264k miles as of this morning and just finally considering a replacement, only reason I don't want to is because this one works perfectly still.

Here’s your sea of the day. Tundra with less than 150k miles.

You can probably find an early 2000's 4runner for that price.

do a search on facebook for pages that people list vehicles for sale. Sometimes they have a few decent buys.
