I was out in the country in Louisiana and I was hiking on a trail and then this giant bird landed on the trail in front of me. It feathers were kinda light brown, but it had speckles, and its legs looked like it was wearing pantaloons. Anybody know? Thanks.

Need to know what giant means.

Could be a red tailed hawk. They are large and variable on coloration.

Yeah it was pretty big, by giant I mean like hawk size. I looked up pictures and I think it might have been a red tail hawk

Or red shouldered hawk. They are smaller but are more of a forest dweller than the red tailed

It was definitely a bird of prey. Sorry I meant to say that. And it was in the woods.

OP, do you not know that it is hunting season and hiking is not the best thing to do at this time of the year unless you are hiking in a area that you know for sure hunting season is closed.

This wasn't a place where people was hunting. You aren't allowed to there because it's a nature walk.
