Need Help From Truck ExpertsPosted by beenHADdat on 5/2/13 at 6:56 am
I have a 2005 F-150 Lariat, when I try to turn one way or the other it completely locks up, its not the tires I've been having it for 2 years with the same tires and this just happened over night. When turned halfway, you can start to feel resistance, turned all the way it locks, when wheel is straight everything is fine.
Is it a 4x4? If the tires are having difficulty rotating it sounds like your have a locking differential activated. If the tires are rotating but the steering wheel is difficult to turn, it sounds more like a power steering issue.
If you have a real transfer case, which your truck does, it doesn't slip power between the front and back tires. At least one tire from the front and one from the back will turn the same speed. When you drive staight, all your tires turn the same speed. When you make a turn, they all turn at a different speed. If you have some type of locker in the back, this could also be the problem.
Do not use 4x4 on pavement, unless snow or ice is involved. It can actually lead to broken parts, and at least prematurely worn parts.
