I'm looking for a 8-10 gun safe or cabinet for the house. My wife is adamant about me locking up the guns with kids in the house. Before any of the teaching gun safety comments, I'm already teaching the kids (and wife) about gun safety.

It will be a gift from family so the price range is in the $200-$300 range. It doesn't have to be pretty as it will be in the utility room most likely. If I can find a nice (pretty for the wife to look at) one, it would go in our bedroom.

What does the OB suggest? Thanks for all input

A little more expensive but Liberty is an extremely good brand.

This. I got a 14-16 gun Liberty gun safe a couple years ago and love it!

This is about the only safe that will fit in that budget, I don't see any fire rating on it.

you can find cheaper cabinets, but those won't keep burglars out, or protect against fire at all.

My thread from a while back. Nothing fancy. If I had the extra money I would probably buy a Liberty, but this will be serviceable for now.

I've looked at those and there is no fire rating. The next level up ($500-%600 range) is fire rated.

I'm trying to explain that to my wife however she really just wants them behind a lock. So my options remain wide open.

Thanks for the input

I got the cheap Liberty. Like 590. I have all my long guns in it, ammo on the floor and shelves with jewelry, watches, and silver

Well I think she is obviously more worried about the kids getting to them than a burglar, which a plain gun cabinet with a lock on it will most likely do unless your kid knows how to pick locks.

But since you are going to be spending probably $200 or so on a cabinet, why not chip in a couple hundred more and get something a little more robust that will also serve to deter criminals to some extent.

I will probably be doing the same thing in the near future once my son gets to the age that they will be dangerous. (just 7 months now, so he can't open the closet door.

I have loved having mine, I regret not spending up to a better safe after reading a lot of reviews, but I do feel they are secure from the kids, dust and rust free, with decent protection from fire and burglars.

Can be found for $100. Locks up guns, done. Spend the rest on ammo

You would've had to save up for a month to get it, huh? Couldn't wait?
