I am in the process of buying a deep v center console and need to learn a way to get to last island/pelto from bayou terrebonne. I grew up fishing out of cocodrie from cocomarina and now that the camp i use is further north near Robinson Canal i am not very familiar with the way from Lake Barre to Pelto. I haven't run out to the pelto area sinec 2007 when i sold my last center console and have been strictly inside fishing since then. Anyone with a camp on bayou little caillou north of Lapayrouse canal or in Montegut on bayou terrebonne care to share the way out to the gulf that you use? I know there are some sand bars north of wine island pass and also i have heard that bayou terrebonne gets shallow at its end.

Bayou Terrebonne is silted in at the end. There is a cut across from the entrance to Bay Lucien that leads to Lake Barre. As for how to get south, someone else will have to chime in. Running to the islands is a little far for our boat.

I mean you could just go down the bayou and hop in the Houma nav.

That's a long put.
If you're at Robinson, shoot thru the locks at Placide(sp), hit Bayou T and head south. You'll come to a cut on you left with old drop net platform in it, take that left in Bay Le Fleur, follow the pac pipes around the land and head south past the 7 marker. You can go right thru Lucien, but it;s best to follow a rabbit thru the first time and plot it.
As far as the islands, I'm always crewing so I don't pay too much attention there.

Probably around an hour idle from our camp near Robinson canal and I have heard they are going to close off the canal near Cecil's in order to build a set of locks there. They have a barge and tug working there now so not sure how soon they will have it shut. It will force everyone north to take bayou terrebonne. I am currently negotiating the price on a 2003 Whaler 240 Outrage so shallow water won't be my friend anymore Worst case i will trailer it down to Coco or the harbor light but would not be ideal since we have a camp on the water.

Yeah they claim they'll have access past the barge for a good while. They've widened the rock canal opening a lot and so far so good. If you know where Lapeyrouse canal is at Bayou T just go south from there till you see the old platform with no net/building on your left.
It'd be a lot easier to just tail a friend and plot it once.

Thanks man. I am guessing old Sea Breeze pass still holds decent water then. Once at the deep water channel it should be an easy clip over to sulfur mines. All my old way points are west of the deep water channel I may start out hitting some of the platforms in the barre field at first till i get more comfortable with the area.

ETA: I haven't really fished the barrier island area hard since before color chart plotters and my gps was just an arrow with a heading. I mainly used a few way points in conjunction with land marks but it has been so long that i probably won't recognize much of the area.

Yep, he could go thru Lucien but it's a little daunting the first time if you aren't following someone.

Yeah, if you get to marker 7 at Sea Breeze and head pretty much south you'll see the rock island at the ship channel.

Lucien can get shallow quick. I've fished Lucien a dozen times or more and I'm still not comfortable running through there.

old Sea Breeze pass

If you haven't been that way in a while, get ready, you might not recognize it.

Really excited about getting back on the water in a decent boat again but not looking forward to relearning the area. Man i think i might shed a tear when i see what has become of last island. Been looking on google maps and it is really depressing.

Google Earth has a cool "historical imagery" feature. The loss of land is amazing.

We go out of the end of Bayou Terrebonne and go around like others have said. I wouldn't run a bigger boat much further than that last pass though. We run it in surface drives and in my old flats boat, but I've watched several boats run up on sand flats in the end of Bayou Terrebonne/Sea Breeze

I couldn't remember which cut was the deeper cut. I've run through both.

Those supply boats moored right north of the future locks in the Petit go thru that cut.
