I just picked up my new Tikka Hunter last night. What an awesome rifle.

I'm trying to take out the little plugs in the top of the receiver where the scope base screws in. 3 of them unscrewed and came out perfectly fine, but 1 is pushed down in the hole and has no head to unscrew. They are plastic.(this sounds like a TWSS joke )

Any ideas on how to get this thing out? I thought about taking a tiny drill bit to it, but i'm scared to death to mess up the threads.

Thoughts?

Most leupold scope bases need only 3 holes. It may be designed that way for a reason.

Sorry I didn't explain well. These are just plastic plugs that keep dirt out of the screw holes when not being used.

I've got burris two piece bases, so i'm definitely going to need all 4 screws.

So they are inside the threaded hole? I was gonna suggest a pick, but it would just fall once it hit the threads

Exactly. Being that it's plastic, i was thinking about heating it up and trying to dig it out.

That could just melt it if it is plastic and it will stick to the threads better.

Can you possibly tap a tiny flathead screwdriver into the head and back it out that way? I would try heating up the tip of the screwdriver, putting it in the hole, and tapping it until it sits in the head. Then twist it out

Does it have threads, or is it just a plug? If it is threaded, is it still caught on the threads at all?

Is bringing it back where you got it an option?

Called a gunsmith, he agreed with Hammertime. Will try to heat up a screwdriver to get a better grip. If that doesn't work, he'll drill it out for a small fee.

Any update?

FWIW, Greenlee has a nice electrician set it the electrical tool isle at Lowes. Not sure if the shaft diameter is too large though

That oughta work. Didn't know the receiver plug screws have been replaced by a plug of wax....Seems like a very petty way for a gun maker to save a few bucks.
