Anyone own an FN AR? Been wanting and A2/A3 style 20" bbl with a fixed stock. Is this worth the $1k MSRP? Any quirky FN stuff I need to know about?

FN makes the majority of military issue M16/A4's, so you would think its a good buy.

here's a review

Is FN worth the money or are there better and cheaper out there?

FN has all but taken over military rifle duties from Colt. Not only do they make most of the M4s and M16s in the military, they also make many of the belt-fed guns (240/249) soliders use.

FN doesn't build crap. Buy with confidence.

Love FN firearms, my cousin works in the plant here in Columbia, SC. Get to your the facilities and but straight from them at wholesale prices it's fantastic.

not sure becuase I haven't shot a lot of similar guns, but i will say that i am very happy with the purchase of this gun. $1000 really doesnt seem like a high price for a solid .308 somewhat "tactical" rifle.

I read a few more reviews as you have me intrigued
if I was to buy an AR I'd want the 20" barrel and fixed stock like this
seems the only real complaints are that the trigger pull is long (mil spec) and the barrel is not free floating in the handguard

both of those items could be replaced (trigger and handguard) if that bothers you. Otherwise this is as close to an M16 as you are going to get, if that appeals to you

Those are the 2 biggest complaints I've seen as well. Easily fixable, but that's why I wanted to ask if there was something out there that was better for the same price or less.

I think RRA sells their national match AR for like 1200

ETA: 1,335 LINK

StI'll not bad as it comes with the NM trigger already.

It's quite a good-looking and smooth-shooting gun for sure!

But this is essentially the same for any manufacturer - there are certain tiers of ARs. You have your standard milspec-type rifles (like the one pictured up there^) and then you have rifles with other accessories that cost more (free-floating handguards, different grips, different stocks, better triggers, etc.).

But I think the main issue you are on the fence about is value. Do FN rifles bring as much value to the table as regularly priced guns with the same accessories? And to that my overwhelming answer is yes. Their track record speaks for itself. They are known for making some of the best cold hammer-forged barrels on the planet. Even my FNS9 handgun has one of these CHF barrels.

If you wish to change any piece of the rifle, just like any other manufacturers' AR, there are tons of options for change out there. From a pure value perspective, it's hard to go wrong with FN.

I don't think they put those barrels on this rifle
I could be wrong though

Looks similar to my COLT MT6700 HBAR except the FN has a muzzle break. I have always been a fan of the 20" barrel AR.

I've worked on/smoothed my AR trigger and it's much better. Can be done and I'd suggest trying it before dropping a couple hundred or whatever on a fancy aftermkt trigger.

You could buy an ALG ACT for around $60 and have an awesome mil spec trigger.
