Need a knife review

I have the swing blade made by them which is the same two blades cut into a single piece of metal that rotates and locks into place so you can use either of the blades when needed.


The knife steel is fairly good and comes very sharp. The durability of the blade is fare and it does dull after a single animal. The metal however is easy to re-sharpen with a pass or two of a diamond sharpener. I have not had any significant corrosion issues with the blade material but I am a Nazi about cleaning and re oiling my blades.


The skin blade is AWESOME and is the best way to make the initial incision in the skin without damaging any underlying meat or entering the gut accidentally when skinning. It really does open them up like a zipper. I can cut through hog hide with ease because I am cutting from the soft side of the skin and fat outward not trying to cut through the hair and outer skin. The blade is a bit difficult to sharpen due its shape though and must be done by hand with a small hone.

The drop point blade is ideal for meat work and is stout enough for heavy tendon and cartilage work too. The broad curve of the blade is also nice for skinning and caping work as it keeps you from cutting through the skin. Due to the size of the blade though it is a bit hard to get into joints when disarticulating them.


I am not a huge fan of the ability to flip one blade for the other. I though I would love it. I occasionally will hit the blade lock button while working. Also while switching configurations it is easy to slip with fat covered hands and cut yourself. I am not a fan of folding knives in general for hunting purposes because #1 moving parts fail, and #2 moving parts are harder to clean. If OE would re-offer the single fixed skin blade like they did so many years ago I would buy 5 today.


I do really like the hard plastic interior lined nylon sheath it comes in which does securely hold the knife. The belt loop is ample for a wide belt and the sheath itself stays open for easy re sheathing of the blade. I got my knife in hunter orange handle that makes finding it after dropping in the grass much easier. The handle material is a soft rubber with textured surface which has held up well to repeated use and cleaning and provides really good grip.

I bought a swing blade last year and really like it - I usually like to clean and sharpen after each animal is done and this knife is very easy to put an edge back on.
