My surface drive is having trouble putting power to the prop.

I have a surface drive and the motor runs up rpms while in neutral no problem, but as soon as I put it in forward and try to run the prop in the water the engine bogs down. Any OB mechanics have an idea of what may be causing the issue?

There is a belt in the back of the motor. Never ever idle thru no wake zone with the motor down. It will burn the belt up. You must raise prop to surface to idle.you have some bolts to remove to access the belt.

Yeah, if you've got a belt driven motor the belt tension may need to be adjusted or it may need to be replaced.

LSU Neil, where'd you learn about burning the belt up like that?

Most of the guys at our duck lease run go-devils and haven't had any problems, though the only time we idle is at the launch and picking up/putting out decoys.

first off gator trax is a boat company. They dont make mud motors.

Your clutch may be shot. Have you tried engaging the clutch out the water and spinning prop at high rpm's?

Had a similar problem. It was slag from the stock muffler in the cylinder fouling the plugs. Pull your plugs and check the gaps. If one is mashed you need to get that thing to the shop ASAP. That slag can score your cylinder and then your in a world of hurt.

Yea man drag that thing over to gator trax and let them look at it (assuming you dont live too far). They did some work for me and were very reasonably priced. Personally I'd get it taken care of before duck season gets any closer and they're swamped.

Check the motor governor. The spring could of broke.
