...with his step dad....

how should I feel about this? I'm torn cause I am proud, but pissed he wasn't with me...

they were hunting in a boxstand over a food plot...he has been many times with me...but I hunt a two man on a power line in a different part of the state....its a little frustrating I guess..

That's a tough one. I was lucky enough to be with both my boys for their first kill.

That sucks man, but for his sake, show him all the excitement you would if he was with you.
Than take him and hunt your arse off until you get a wall hanger with him.

It sucks in that aspect, but this just fuels his desire to hunt more with you in the future.

Not sure why you would be anything but happy about this...there's gonna be plenty of more times for you and your son to kill a deer together. Be happy.

It was a doe. You can still be with him when he gets his first buck.

Congrats to your son. I went thru a similar situation. I never killed a deer with my dad but killed several with the step-dad.

I would always call my old man and he could tell how excited I was, so he acted excited too. Maybe he was faking.

Oh, and email pic to rebbeertd@gmail and I'll put it up if you like.

I take my step son fishing and I don't think his dad minds at all. I think you should get comfort in the fact that he is outdoors and taking up hobbies you enjoy as well. Congrats to him!!!

I understand where you're coming from, and it's none of my business, but I think you're lucky your kid's step dad is a good guy that will take him hunting. Your kid could have just as easily been with a friend or by himself when he killed his first deer and he would resent you if you only allowed him to hunt with you until he killed his first. The step dad that is taking him hunting is a helluva lot better than many step parents.

Be proud, excited and honest. Just tell him you are so happy for him and just wish it was with you. Acknowledge it for what it is, a happy time for him, and move on. Now be the first for some other cool stuff, like a big buck........

Looks like you failed as a father...

J/K. Be proud. I've always deer hunted with my step dad and duck hunted with my dad

It would have to suck for sure, but at the end of the day its about your son. Be happy for him and be proud.
