Go see dr Braud in Gonzales, he is good and cheap as hell, he does not take appointments so you may have to wait. In line for a while

I usually go to Griffith because he loves hunting dogs and he's closer to my house. Costs the same as Dr. Breaux give or take a few bucks.

Still trying to avoid the vet though.

My dog had the exact same thing when it was 6 months old. It was an abscess and we never figured out what caused it. It will eventually burst and you need to bring it in so they can rinse it an put in a small drain tube. Good luck and I hope it's nothing more serious.

So does it have to be drained or will it go away without the stuff draining out?

Seems like she would be trying to pop it on stuff herself.

Still thinking hard about going cut this thing open and putting cut n heal on it after I squeeze the asian out.

we used to use the larger needles that we gave shots to horses and cows with to lance and drain. if you're set on doing it, that would probly work the best. if it turns out to be a hard mass, i'd take her in asap..

Yea I have one of those big needles on hot standby right now. I obviously want to do whatever's best for the dog (as long as it's reasonable), but I'm not going spend $400 at the vet for him to poke this thing with a needle and squeeze the crap out.

Thing is, if I bring her to the vet they are going to want to do a biopsy and shite like that. I just want it drained and some antibiotic shite put on it.

they still make that purple spray stuff? that was used on bulls and colts after castrating, dogs for snakebite, chopping of tails and anything else on the farm, including my young arse... I'd go to school on Monday morning with that purple spray all over me from barb wire cuts, sawbriars, or whatever... purple spray, coal oil campho phenique, iodine and castor oil was all we pretty much had..

Pretty sure they still make it. I have some of that and some cut n heal powder which is pretty much the same shite. I find the powder works much better though because it makes everything clot up very quick. It works well enough to get heads to quit bleeding after you scoop horns. I've used it on myself a few times

I should have posted this thread on the OT. That would be some good entertainment.

I'll drain that nasty SOB this evening if it doesn't start getting better. 100% chance that I end up stabbing myself with this needle.

i forgot about dehorning... you know, one hot arse summer day in july or august we dehorned a lot full and i got too hot and i guess saw too much blood and got too much of the smell. Started seeing spots and feeling nauseated..I woke up under the milkin' shed where my daddy had drug me by the spurs.. Dehorning a bunch on summer days was tough..

Dehorning cows can teach us a good lesson about deer hunting.

People who are tracking deer often say "with all this blood, it's got to be dead close. It's running out of blood."

Scoop the horns outta some stuff and you learn how much blood critters really can loose without dying.

Why ain't we seen a pic of this softball on this dog's neck yet? Lance it or poke it and drain it then spray the purple stuff. I swear I believe that purple spray can cure cancer and the HIV according to my papaw haha

It really isn't much to see. She's got so much extra skin under her neck that it doesn't look like much is there. You have to grab it to really appreciate how huge it is (TWSS)

well, if i had cancer, i guess i got enough sprayed on me to cure it.. as far as HIV, back in those days it must have been still on that "other big continent"... I'll stop there, so i won't get da axe....

Clip the area clean and clean it with some rubbing alcohol. Heat up the needle and go straight in with it, as you pull out you can use the tip to make the incision larger. As long as its open and draining it will be much more comfortable for your dog. If it isnt a abscess or cyst nothing will come out and then you need to likely have it removed. As for LA 200, about 1 ml per 25 lbs SQ (under skin) is safe to give but wouldnt give multiple doses, just one then get some antibiotics from your vet. Yes I am a vet.
