This new build with 10.5" barrel shoots fire out about 10 inches when firing. I put a low concussion muzzle brake on it and it works really well. Build was under $600. Ares armor nickel boron bcg and Hardened Arms upper.

Just a lot of wasted energy. Kind of defeats the purpose of that cartridge.

.223/5.56 performance is significantly lower starting right under the 16" barrel threshold. 20" barrels are best and are what the cartridge was designed for, but the difference between 20" and 16" is negligible enough. Go from 20" to 10" and you are loosing a significant amount of energy. It's like cutting 10" off of a 300 win mag barrel(usually about 26" for a reason) and wondering why you see a big flash ball and get performance equal to a 30-30.

Some AR's can run it, some can't.
The most common AR issue I see is the bolt locked forward from steel ammo getting stuck in the chamber.

Wastes about 20-25% of the muzzle energy. If you are outside kicking down door distance you will will want to change from ball ammo to something that will expand if you are shooting at soft targets. Will still ring steel with authority under 200 yards.

Like I said, a 300 win mag cut down to 16" will still ring steel with authority, but it will have a lot of wasted energy, and therefore a more efficient cartridge for that barrel length would be better.

I could beat off with 2 hands for maximum efficiency. But I like to mix it up.

How would one theoretically get the round unstuck from the chamber if this were to occur? I've never seen it happen.

Remove upper assembly from lower. Tap on bolt carrier towards rear of upper with something that won't mar the bolt carrier. If case is still stuck in chamber, use a cleaning rod.

That was $18 on Ebay. Let's not give that optic too much credit now shall we?
