Mow Tolerant Spring Planting

Getting ready to reseed my fescue lawn in the backyard. I mix White Dutch clover into it for the deer to browse and to help build the soil. I had a bunch of fill dirt brought in and I'm trying to amend it as best I can. Are there any other items besides the clover that would tolerate a mowing height of 2-3" and still be an attractive browse item and soil builder?
This is in mid-Alabama BTW.
Thanks,
