I have a 2004 150 Mercury Saltwater series motor. I have a problem with it dying while in neutral. To get it running I have to throttle it up while idling. Then throw it in to gear real quick. If it's neutral for a few seconds it dies.

Any suggestions?

Ima go with the probabilities and say you either have some trash in the fuel or you are sucking air. be sure that every place in the fuel system is sealed up tight as hell.

Check all fuel fitting, fuel filter(clean?) and check your fuel tank vent line by blowing air thru it back to the tank.

Then start looking at the carbs to rebuild.

If it's bad or trash in the gas do I have to drain it or is there something I can add to the gas to clean it?

Also how hard is it to clean the carb?
