OK I'm 99% sure I'm going buy 2 8 foot talons for my boat (I've already done the power pole vs talon mitigation in my head). Questions are:

Anyone here install them yourself? Is it as easy as it looks? Any suggestions/tips/recommendations?

Do any of baws know the best places to buy online? Yes I looked but maybe you guys know of a place I didn't see while looking online.

TIA

If you get the jackplate mounts, it's super easy to do. The talons only have one cord for power so. I hydraulic lines like the power poles. I installed my power poles and it was rather simple. I couldn't imagine the talons being more difficult.

Check tackle warehouse for good deals on them and power poles

I guess it depends on how you're mounting. My Talon is braced under the jack plate. So I would have to lift my motor, but otherwise it seems easy.

Super easy. positive, negative go to 12v battery. there's also a green wire for ignition source if you want to wire it up to alarm when the key is turned on and talon is down. i got the bracket that mounts to the side of a jackplate. once bracket was mounted (1 hour maybe) it took a total of 30 minutes to mount and wire up.

i bought my 12' from digital oasis online. typed in talon 12' white in google and went to the shopping tab. found the cheapest and bought it. $1500

2 12'
installed at home with the jack plate bolt on brackets.

The only thing I needed help with was the hot wire to the ignition, so it beeps when you crank the motor and don't take off with them down.

if you are fishing in current or wind 2 does no better than one. I would go with 1-10 foot over 2-8s. I use 1 talon and an ipilot to keep me positioned if needed.

Power poles are terrible, would never have one on my rig. Just screams rookie poser.

lol I'm prolly being over the top, I just hate the way they look. Never been in a place I couldn't hold myself or could foresee having to put down a pole. Especially with the new trolling motors and GPS.

I see guys with 21' Rangers and dual poles who can't throw a baitcasting rig.

Installed my 8 ft on my xpress by myself. Easy as pie. MKs instructions call for some super duper marine adhesive, but I would go with the next less powerful one.

Thanks guys....I'll probably mount directly to transom (the recommended way per MK) but will add a matching plate to the inside so the bolts aren't directly in contact with the inside of the transom and won't "round out" over time.

Thanks for mentioning Digital Oasis; will look them up.
