Lighter, stronger, leaner: Oshkosh’s L-ATV to replace the aging Hummer

As for the vehicle itself, it’s lighter than AM General’s offering, making it easier to transport by air, and it features better protection from mines and roadside bombs — always a plus. Moreover, it has a longer range and more durable design to transport troops and gear.

The JLTV features 20 inches of wheel travel, an adaptable suspension based on terrain, turret-operated weapons systems, remote weapons systems, a tube-launched missile system, a digitally-controlled GM 6.6-liter Duramax Diesel V8 with 397 horsepower (and an unspecified pound-feet of torque), an Allison transmission, an on-board power generator, and 360-degree armor

I thought the Outdoor Board would provide an adequate critique of this. It looks like a great tool, but also a bit large to maneuver in tight spaces.

Did they use the dog van from Dumb & Dumber as inspiration?

I think it's bad-arse when you look at the specs. Sure it's not as handsome as a humvee, but this baby has A/C. It can also take most IED blasts. In other words the rate of casualties from the two middle east wars would of been reduced by 65% had these vehicles been in place instead of the Humvee.

Four passengers, armored machine gun turret, top notch radio and electronics equipment, can take an rpg blast, and can go 100mph on off road terrain.
It's a bad arse motherfer and it's great to see that the troops will have the protection they need.

Nice catch, didn't see that tab. I would have thought 15-25k as the range.

I went to look at one in tx before the first auction
guess I was being naive but I figured they'd go for 10 or less
once the one I saw hit 15 I said guess not...

everything that runs has gone for 20 to 30, some more
