We'll go on his college fall break at the end of the season. DIY public land in central Wyoming. We've both killed antelope before, but it's been a few years.

Good deal. That reminded me to check our draw results for Wyoming nonresident deer. Our group was successful again. Bring on September!!

What's the season for them? My FIL has a place in Jackson Hole I need to look into that. I'm building up my elk Pref Points but I'd like to get out there to hunt something in the mean time. I'd take a doe tag easily.

In a few days, there will be a second draw for leftover tags. Most antelope unit seasons are mid September thru October. The leftover tags will be for units with mostly private land. You can pay a trespass fee and hunt a ranch in those units, possibly.
Also, if you plan on hunting other species, buy points only now.

My group got drawn for Mule Deer. Will now get Antelope tags. Private ranch NE of Gillette. Will be our eighth trip to this ranch. Love it up there. Made friends with the owner and family. No one else allowed to hunt it other than rancher and kids. It is amazing what fried seafood, gumbo, and Cajun cooking can get you.

My wife and I killed one apiece last year there. Lots of fun and great eating also.

Private ranch NE or Gillette.

25 years ago I went on my one and only antelope hunt near Gillette, WY, south of Gillette. I stayed at the Best Western. Drove everyday to the Dunham ranch near Wright, WY for the hunt. It was a handgun only hunt. I was happy to get a nice buck as well as a doe. Two guys in the hunting party drove in from WA for the hunt. They bought extra doe tags for $25 each at the "7-11" store. They ended up killing 7 does. Their cargo box was full of ice chests on their return to WA. I always regret I didn't go on another antelope hunt.

Made my first hunt there 22 years ago. This was before oil and coal development and the resulting population increase. We drove up from Douglas and saw mule deer and antelope in numbers we could have never dreamed of. You could get trespass rights to private ranches for $100 to $200!

There is a shitload of public BLM land around Gillette to hunt and PLENTY of animals on it. (I'm sure in other areas also)
The doe tags are very cheap (I think $34 when I was there in 2010)
A few of the guys I hunted with killed several does each for the meat...
The Wyoming people said Antelope didn't taste good because they eat sage... they never had a coonass cook it up for them.

Is it easy to get a rifle doe tag? We go out there often in mid September to mid October. I don't know why I haven't looked into it. I'll check it out.

Pronghorn has always been great for me, but there are certainly a certain percentage that don't like it.

First big game animal I ever shot was a booner Pronghorn in NM when I was 10. Got lucky.

If I remember correctly you just have to have the tag... there is no stipulation on the weapon... Just has to be during the open season for that weapon.

We applied for doe tags in our unit, but didn't draw. You need to put in for the regular draw or the leftover draw. Leftovers used to be a free for all, but now will be a draw in a few days.
