Any Mako Pro 17 owners? Haven't seen many reviews - it looks like a decent boat for rivers and small saltwater bodies of water. I read in one thread that since Bass Pro took over Mako their quality went down. Can you explain?

Thanks for your time.

take a close look in the storage boxes and bilge area and compare it to other boats.

I'd love to throw a poling platform on the back of one and give it a try in the marsh. It seems like a great marsh boat but I can't say I have any experience with it.

Mako did make great boats...not sure about the ones out there now. To me, the just seem very over priced. I was out there walking around on Sunday and took a look at a few of them. They looked like solid boats but I wasn't wild about the price.

It's a good looking skiff but I would bet a Carolina skiff in that size is a better value and you have more choices in motor options.

You can get a much much better boat for that kind of money. I think it weighs something line 2,000 pounds. I bet its rock solid stable but would never even dream of poling one. Fit and finish on the Mako hulls has been dogshit for some time now. I looked over one of these things and it's a real shame what BPS has done with this brand. The console of the boat I looked at was simply screwed to the floor, and not even very well. None of the hardware was sealed and I've seen a better gelcoat job on a canoe.

The only good thing about that hull is it can handle a little chop and is stable. I don't think it is something you would feel unsafe in if you had to take a big wave.

If want to fish inshore in Louisiana, there are better hulls. Especially if you want a shallow draft boat that you can pole.

Carolina Skiffs of around that size ride like cheap bathtubs.

Bumping for some more reviews. What are some other boats that fall in the same price range?

Workmate of mine bought one and loves it. Having said that, he's not what I would call an experienced boater or fisherman. Smart guy, but not a true salt yet. I looked at them and wasn't impressed with the way they were constructed. That's not saying they wouldn't ride good or fish good. Just wasn't impressed.
