Louisiana Game Harvest Survey

Many of you have received an e-mail today that includes a link to the 2016-17 Louisiana Game Harvest Survey. It is a legitimate survey, conducted by the LSU School of Renewable Natural Resources for LDWF and is an important part of our continued cooperative research into methods that will improve our harvest estimates in Louisiana.
Specifically, the 2015 Waterfowl Hunter Survey utilized 2 random mail-out, an open web, and an e-mail sampling frame. We found we got the exact same answers from the random mail-out and the e-mail sampling frames, and the e-mail survey was a small fraction of the cost. (the open-web surveys continue to be biased toward more active and successful hunters and thus over-estimate days hunted and ducks killed).
So we are expanding our work to the annual Big and Small Game Harvest Survey, which is mailed out to a random sample of 6% of all Louisiana hunters. Those mail-out surveys have already been sent out, and today, we sent out the e-mail portion of the survey. Comparison of the results of the 2 surveys will inform future survey methods in an effort to get the necessary harvest data in the most cost-effective way.
I hope y'all will participate if selected.

I got it and filled it out.

I haven't gotten it but will fill it out if I do. I will say that I was pretty disappointed with the 2016-2017 Clapper Rail harvest. Worst I've seen in years. Reminded me of the Gallinule shortage of 07...

I got it this afternoon and filled it out.
Don't remember ever putting my email on my license, but I must have at sometime.

I got the e-mail version but didn't click thinking it might be a scam. Been checking the Outdoor Board for confirmation and will now fill it out.

I got it. Is bald eagle considered big or small game?

Larry, I got my survey and completed it this morning. Thanks for reminding me that I didn't harvest a single critter in the 16-17 hunting seasons.

Received the email version...filled out...then got sad realizing that I did not put anything in the freezer last season.

Filled mine out this morning. It was a little depressing putting in the actual number of birds i killed

Thanks guys! Zeros are just as important as anything else. That's how many geese and deer I killed last season from my efforts.
In 2015, only about 25% of duck hunters had e-mails in their LDWF license files. I'm not exactly sure how we get them besides asking when you purchase a license in person, or from on-line transactions. You may have been selected for the 6% random mail-out regardless, but you would not have received the e-mail survey without an e-mail on file with LDWF (of course .......).

No email here, but not sure if I've ever included it on anything official.
Some how the feds tracked me down because of bird hunting in multiple states and had me keep a log all last season for doves. Kind of neat, I log all wing shoots in a personal journal already so it wasn't a big deal.

I got the email and also numerous phone calls about what saltwater fish I recently caught. The lady kept making it sound like she was with Ldwf and I asked if she was and finally she said on behalf of Ldwf. I responded to her questions and asked where and how she got my phone/cell number and didn't get response. I don't remember giving it up but it may have been attached to online license purchase last year. I guess this is all good to keep track of harvests in the woods and fish put on ice?

I got one. May I make a suggestion? Hunters need to be surveyed on seasons and dates. I think you'll find many hunters, no matter the species, would rather shorter seasons during more productive times rather than long seasons that aren't optimal

And eliminate dog hunting. It's the equivalent of the LGBT movement....make laws to appease the few that do not represent the majority opinion held.

That survey reminded my how I like to climb into a lock on and fricking relax - watching nature is more important now than killing random animals.
I saw some cool stuff while bow hunting - and I love hot coffee and a beautiful sunrise while duck hunting.
I enjoy watching the kids shoot now.

thanks for posting this, Mr Reynolds...I probably would have thought that was some spam. I will check and fill it out, if I get one. one question that I do have is, how is this different than the HIP cerfification that I fill out every year?
also, I do enjoy your posts here in the fall concerning waterfowl numbers.
