Does LSP Troop I do finger printing? The instructor in my CCW class this weekend said only the Baton Rouge troop does electronic finger printing. And I am sure as hell not taking a day off to go to BR just for finger prints. Where in Lafayette can I get it done?

TIA

In BR it is electric and speeds up the process, a paper fingerprint adds a couple of weeks to the process..

I got mine done at Gonzales PD. Paper one. They tried to bullshite me and say the LSP wouldn't accept a paper one.

Strangely enough, I submitted my paper ones and had my ccw a month later.

My 9yr old son knows more about the law than most of the cops at GPD. They arrested a guy for open carry at Tanger a few years ago. Left him locked up all weekend. It costs them 80k from a lawsuit IIRC.

I understand not wanting to take a day to drive to BR.

But this thread from just a few days ago might be of interest:

Just depends on how quickly you want your permit.

Instructor said doing paper prints only adds 2-3 weeks. Not really concerned if it takes 2 weeks or 2 months. Just don't have the time to spend a day going to BR just for electronic prints.

Does the LSP office in Lafayette do paper prints?

Don't know.

The issue with "ink & roll" prints is that over 40% are rejected as being illegible during the background check. We were told by LSP that if you get prints done on their digital scanner, they will NOT be rejected.

If yours get rejected, you'll have to get printed again. At that point your application may get placed back "on the bottom of the stack." (So the delay could easily be longer than 2-3 weeks, depending on the volume of permit applications being processed).

If your prints are still illegible on the second set, it's my understanding that they don't get rejected a second time (I'm not positive this is the case).

I didn't send any when I submitted my application in November. I was told they do not need them anymore. They use your DL photo.

You just need to make a few phone calls to find out WHO does electronic prints locally. When I had mine, done some years ago, I had a difficult time finding a local agency to do the electronic prints. My local PD and Sheriff's Dept only did paper prints. Almost had to drive 60 min to S'port/Bossier. Finally found out the local parish correctional facility offered the service for $5. They were reluctant to admit to me that to me. Whatever local law enforcement agency does the booking of arrestees will have the capability to to electronic prints because they check everyone's prints in the database when they're arrested.

They actually used a scanner to scan the 12 different prints. One of mine was rejected, but they immediately knew so and rescanned that print. Then they used a laser printer to print it on the FBI print card; I had to bring my own card.

Carefully read ALL the requirements on your application. At the time, I had to submit pics. The Dep Sheriff claimed she didn't need to put my name, date and her signature on the back of the pica. She was wrong so I had to go back a wk later and show her the rules for her to put the additional info.

Say what. This is bullshite. I went today and tried to get Gonzales PD to do the fingerprinting cards. Promptly told me they do not do it. Only if you're arrested. Went to LSP and they had 20+ people waiting. Will have to take off work to go get this done since they close at 3:30
