Gas tank and primer are up under the bow of the boat. As of a few weeks ago, while in WOT, the motor will just bog down and stop. Walk up front, bulb is empty. Get the bulb primed again and boom motor fires up and runs well for another few minutes until it does it again. It's strange, but it started happening only when I was in the ICW and was going through some chop. Any ideas what could be going on? I've read a few different things on some other forums but just wanted to get the OBs thoughts.

eta: motor is 35 Vanguard

Happens in our crawfish boats all the time. Is the bulb real soft?

Yes, it's empty.

I'd replace that and go from there.

It'll get worse as you get older, PP.

Also, I've had it vented so that's not the issue. I'm wondering if it could be a fuel pump issue.

Check to make sure that your tank is properly vented. I bet your vent closed up from the chop.

ETA: You addressed this while I was typing. How old are your fuel lines?

It was open and I even took the whole cap off at one point. Didn't make a difference.

I'd check the fuel line. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like they just don't last anymore. They may be collapsing down somewhere.

Try a new fuel line first. See if you can borrow

I would check your fuel line connections first. Sounds like you are getting air in the line. I would cut off an inch of line at each connection and reconnect. Then look at replacing the primer bulb. If not that then look at replacing the tank connection. What kind of tank connection do you have?

Well the primer is there to get fuel to the pump/carb to crank and then it's like it's not getting any fuel which makes me think it's a pump issue. I'll check all mentioned in this thread and report back.

Check the o rings in the quick connects at the tank. Mine did the same thing. Changed both pieces and never had a problem again.

Exactly what it sounds like. Quick check is to have someone pump it under WOT. Pin hole leak will cause problems.

Same issue on a 9.9, changed fuel lines, no more issue.

sounds to me like it is sucking air into the fuel system....check all fuel lines and filters for leakage. change anything that you can manage.

After the motor dies and you go check the bulb is it collapsed? Like the fuel has been sucked out but still has a vacuum on it that's collapsing your bulb?

No, it's inflated but empty.
