I am only familiar with the Glock and Colt Delta Elite. Any other good options out there?

Rock Island makes a 10mm 1911, although I'm not familiar with it.

Several others in the 1911 platform but they are going to be expensive. Wilson combat and STI for example

Those would be my top choices in the caliber - and, like you suggest: not cheap. Of course 10mm isn't going to be cheap to shoot, either. It will be a low volume safe queen.

But, to each his/her own, right?

I fully intend to reload so I am not as worried about the cost to shoot. You have the initial investment with the dies but after that the cost diminishes substantially.

I think I saw one of those at Jim's firearms. That was a big SOB.

It is a large pistol, but it helps with the recoil. I've shot some DoubleTap 200gr hardcast rounds through it and the recoil isn't what you would think for a 200gr bullet with 1300fps velocity at the muzzle.

God that's a lot of horsepower!

That's faster than those 208gr A-max 300BLK rounds you shot at that hog, too.

I've probably put 1000 rounds through my Delta Elite in the 5 months I've had it. It's a great pistol to shoot. I love mine.

OP I think you can get the glock for around $550 or so if you want a Glock.

A 1911 type pistol will likely be more. Also, there are some guns like the Delta Elite that can't take really high pressure rounds like the Glock.

Ammo is a little hard to find but if you reload it makes it much easier. Bass Pro keeps starline brass. I have had a hard time finding much heavier than 180 grain. Still haven't found a hollow point that I want to reload for a defensive/hunting round.

I really like my gen4 G20 - the dual recoil spring set up is nice and does reduce felt recoil.
