Looking for some opionions on TC..

I hunt in Mississippi and am looking for a primitive and new deer rifles. After doing some research I may be able to kill two birds with one stone.
Thompson Center Pro Hunter (which is allowed in Ms) chambered in .35 Whelen. For those who aren't that familiar with the round, it's a necked up 30-06 to .35 caliber. This round qualifies as Primitive and has very similar ballistics as my current 30-06.
local shop has this gun, ammo, bar and rings out the door for $887
I'm looking to put a Meopta 3-12x50 Artemis 2000 or 2100 series scope. Order the scope online for $475 (regular 700 to 850)
Do you guys see any reason as not to do something like this?

As long as it is legal. I know it wouldn't be in LA but if you only hunt MS then why not. How hard is it to get the .35 ammo?

I called Ms Wildlife and Fisheries and confirmed that it CAN be used as a primitive weapon. I knew that the round was legal, wasn't sure about the weapon...
If I shoot the Hornaday rounds out of it I will have to order them, if I shoot Remington Core I can get them local. The Hornaday round has better velocity.

It would be my ALL the time weapon. My current rifle is a 1975 30-06.. Need a new long rifle as well.

You can buy two rifles for that money.
H&R plus a Tikka or Remington

I understand what you are saying.. I have run this through my brain a number of times. Besides going out and buying two rifles and two scopes which will cost more than 1300, why not have them both in one?

bc you are limiting yourself on your rifle that you will mainly use. I have a $100 scope on my 45-70 and a $600 scope on my tikka 30-06. Major disadvantage having a single shot as your every day rifle.

I have been deer hunting for about 6 years and I have never had to make a quick second shot.
(just playing devils advocate to you because I want to make the best decision that I can)

I have. But point being... you easily could and you wouldn't have that capability after your $1500 rig. No way in hell I'd spend that kind of money on a single shot primitive weapon.

So in your opinion, spend $1800 to $2000 for two guns over $1350 for one that will do all the same things?
And you keep saying that you wouldn't spend this kind of money on a primitive weapon.. I'm not, I'm spending this money on a long range rifle that qualifies as primitive in Ms. Huge difference.
Another advantage from my view, I can, in a few years, buy a 243 barrel for the weapon and my son will have a deer rifle. At this point I can get me a new bolt action rifle.

289+100 scope= 420 roughly
629+your same scope your talking about= 1160
Total = $1580 and you come out with two rifles over 1 rifle.

I have read 10 + articles and forums that are in favor of what I'm thinking about doing. There are a lot of guys in Ms that have already switched to this style of hunting and I know of a lot of hunters that shoot TC Pro Hunters in .270, 30-06 and so on as their everyday deer rifle.
I didn't come up with all this on a whim.. I was about to go buy an H&R 444 and so started the ball rolling on this.

I'm not going to support this type of behavior. If that's what you want to do, fine. Just remember it's an ugly rifle that'll never grant you a second chance.
