I live on the MS coast and am fixing to get a kayak soon. Don't really want to spend a whole lot but was up for a list of suggestions.

TIA.

I don't know jack about yaks yet, but I'll wait for the video on this one. Good luck.

For open water, find a used trident 13 or tarpon.

When you say ocean kayak, what do you actually mean? Something for paddling across open water or are you planning to fish the marsh, bays, etc down here? Regardless, check out everything kayak in Gulfport. Even if you don't buy from there, it's a great place to see what you like. They even have an indoor test pool.

If I'm spending less than $1k and going brand new, I'd look at a Perception Pescador Pro or a Vibe Sea Ghost. If you check a bunch of classifieds you'll run across a good deal on a more premium brand in the under $1k range.
