I was afraid it was going to be a snake when I clicked on this thread.

Call me what you want, but I would be scared out my britches if I walked up on that thing in the woods.

The last one I saw was directly beneath me as I stepped right over him on an old woods road. I was not in a position to jump and was carrying a bow, climber and fanny pack.

Startled, sure. But why scared? You know you can just walk away and a snake can't catch you, right?

That is a gorgeous snake. I've never seen a timber rattler anywhere close to that light in color in my neck of the woods.

I don't kill snakes. We have an understanding, I watch where I'm going and they don't bite me. I just enjoy their beauty.

I have a semi-irrational fear of serpents.

rattlesnakes are awesome. Always like to see them in the woods.

Cottonmouths on the other hand.......

I'm no expert, but I believe canebrake and timber rattler are the same snake.

It is what was once called the canebrake rattler. They're no longer recognized as a separate subspecies from any other timber rattler. Unless that has changed again since the last time I read up on it. Taxonomy is a messy and ridiculous thing.

Teague...what color Timber Rattlesnakes do we get up here in N. Alabama. I'm still learning all the variations to stuff as I'm originally from SWLA.
