So I figured I'd ask you guys a seemingly obvious question, but it doesn't make sense to me.

So I don't hunt... But if I did... And I bagged a 150lb deer over a mile into the woods... Is there a trick to getting it out of there that isn't just picking up 150lbs of dead weight and lugging it out of there?

I mean, there's gotta be a better way.. No?

If you can't drive a 4 wheeler to it, invest in a deer cart. I hunt public land and it's always a long walk to my spots so I have a deer cart that I pull in and leave a couple hundred yards from where I'm hunting. If I kill one, I go back and get the cart and load it up. It's still a pain in the arse especially when you hit cypress knees but it's much easier than dragging a deer on the ground.

Shoo him out to the road before you shoot him.

A deer loses about 35% of its live weight once it is field dressed. This means cut it open and remove all of the innerds right there where it lays. I recommend doing this close to a creek because you're going to get blood on your dick skinners and guys that have never hunted tend to not enjoy getting their skinners dirty. If a creek is close by, you can clean your hands while you wag them on your hike back to where you came from.

I like hand waggers, fwiw.

Field dress and invest in a drag rope with orange chest / shoulder strap.

As above, a cart can be very helpful.

At Christmas I saw several bucks and does, however powpow made it very clear he was not helping if I shot one as he drove me to the stand that morning then walked me a mile down the levee.

Thank you for the legit answer.

I have ZERO knowledge of hunting... Personally, never got the appeal.

But field dressing it makes sense... Do you just leave the innards where you cut them out in the woods?

Makes sense. Leave the goopy shite for the scavengers.

Thanks, OB! You guys aren't as bad as everyone says!

Of course a Southern man usually would kill two and drag one out in each hand.

But we understand that may be a bit rough on you yankee types.

My step-dad hunts all the time... Mounted 12-point on the wall to prove it. I just never thought to ask him about how he got it out of the woods.

(And he's too old to text and I don't particularly like calling him... I though OB was the next best thing )
