As soon as I stop climbing I put safety belt/harness on.
Just try not to climb ironwood trees. Too much slippage as you climb.
Mostly ash,sweet gum and oaks for my climbing. Maybe an occassional pine.
Just don't get in a hurry and check your stand before every seson with a fine tooth comb. Most stands that break are from weld stress cracks that propagate and snap over time. I usually sand blast my climber every couple of years and repaint after inspecting.
Of course I do NDT for a living, so it's kinda second nature to me.
