I really need to put a blind on my boat but I'm not sure which direction I should go. The prefab ones are around $600-700 but I have heard they aren't built great. If I had a good set of plans I would be willing to do it myself or if someone custom builds them I may be willing to pay to get it done. Anyone know anyone who does them or can suggest where I can find some plans? My only real requirement would be that it is removable so I could take it off during the off season. Thanks.

Conduit, bimini top fittings. Very easy to make for cheap.

I made my own out off 1" sec 20 tubing. It's 6 years old(frame work) and still good. Cost around $50 at the time to build. I got some of that camo netting for free. Bought some of that grass panels that go on top.

OP, what kind of boat you have?

There's plenty of plans on the internet. I made one out if EMT conduit, hose clamps, and c-clamps years ago. I tie wrapped fast grass to it and it worked very well. It was on a 1644 GD boat that I no longer have. It's probably too narrow for your boat or I'd give it to you.

Gatortail will make fitted to your boat. Easy up and down.

I did something very similar to this. Only thing I would add is use some green mesh fencing to mount the fastgrass to. This helps with folding, tears, etc. If you take care of it it will last a long time. If it gets wet, just pop it up when you get home and let it dry.

If you don't want to use EMT, you could probably get away with using PVC as long as you fill it full of "great stuff" expanding foam. That will make the PVC rigid. Full disclosure, I've never made a blind but I do know that PVC trick works really well.

agreed...I have actually made blinds from PVC before and they worked just fine...only trouble is, that it is a little difficult to get paint to stick to PVC...

Former Avery blind owner checking in but I would not own again. Much easier to pre-fab one. In fact, about to start on one in the next few weeks on my buddies new duck boat.
