I have a nice 5.11 Tactical 90 lumen pen style light that pretty much illuminates anything I need to see in the dark and clips easily to my pocket to carry. But, I would like to kick it up a notch for a brighter option around the house to something between 200-300 lumen that works with AA batteries. I've found a few by Zebra Lights and LED Lenser but curious as to what I may be overlooking. Not really keen on the Cr123 batteries or Lithium rechargables but I could be swayed. What brand/model do you recommend or own?

Nice. But, holy crap I searched for that model and saw there's a 2015 updated version called the EA41 that goes up to 1020 lumens. Definitely on the short list

The LED Lenser is a badass. Brighter light than all of my (older) Surefires.

If you want to spend a little more the Nitecore EAX is 2000 lumens and 8 AA batteries

I have both. The EAX is about the size of a mini mag 2d.

The Fenix and EagleTac do look nice but thinking AA may be the way to go since I have a huge supply on hand and they can be picked up just about anywhere very cheaply.

Is the polymer that's made of the same kind of material as some of the ultra light handguns?

120 lumen spot light is revolutionary?

Wow. Sounds amazing.

Hope you can feel the sarcasm.

I prefer the 18650 rechargeable batteries in hand held lights. I've got a couple of the expensive name brands, but my favorite is an Ozark Trail (Wal-Mart brand) that takes 2 18650 rechargeable batteries. Found them on clearance for $8, and I got 3 of them.

Keep one in both trucks because they have a USB port to charge in the truck, and they can also charge another device if you are in a bind.

Head lamps are another story. I use them often in my work, and I prefer the ones with lower lumens (AAA batteries). I actually have one that takes two 18650 batteries, and it's best not to use it if other people are around... you'll blind them.

I have 4 or 5 stream lights for general use and they rock! I also have 3 sniper hogs lights for my AR that also work really well. I have the polytac, super tac and two other ones that I can't remember the model of.

I also have 2 or 3 versions of the stream light pen lights.

The Eagletac does take the 18650 rechargeable batteries too. I've never used them, but I believe that they only reduce the lumens to around 800-900. Don't quote me on that number.

Just ordered this for the house. Looks like the overall best value for brightness and cost

And got this one to keep on me and cause I like titanium. Thanks for all the suggestions. This will become addictive much like pocket knives are I fear

I picked up a couple of 750 lumen Crees (just some generic Chinese brand) for ~$10 on dealextreme 4 years ago that are still going strong.

It is when it's on the same light as the 120 lumen spot. Two lens pointing in two directions. It's the leading intrinsically safe light in the industrial world. Get the rated or unrated one and your set. The rated light runs 20 hrs on 3 AA batteries. Nothing else compares. Around $28-30 LINK
